Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I wasn't using it in vain. I was using it to convey a sense of scale. Like comparing a garden hose to the water department's intake pipe. You can't say that the water department's intake pipe is better than your garden hose, because they're two completely different things. The intake...
If I'm not going to use a desktop environment, which I don't use on 68k macs, I prefer fluxbox. It's blackbox's bigger brother. It has considerably more features and a blackbox like taskbar that is actually functional -- unlike the taskbar in blackbox.
I've also tried afterstep on an LCIII...
I have two 68k Macs that will do multiple ethernet devices. One is a Quadra 950, which has builtin ethernet plus IIRC five nubus ports. The problem with the Quadra 950 is that netbsd and openbsd won't run on it yet because of the iops. Debian will run on a Quadra 950, but it will be slow...
You can't compare PWS to WebStar or ASIP! That's like comparing a Honda Civic with a Freightliner Tractor. There's no comparison. It's almost like trying to compare WebStar or ASIP with Apache; no comparison! They're entirely different beasts.
I'm really starting to get back into using System 7 again. I spent the whole day today installing software that will make my Quadra 950 useful in a practical way. I don't think that I'll be doing a whole lot of web surfing with the Quadra, but this machine does just about everything else...
Surfing the 68kMLA forums with Internet Explorer 4.01 on a stock Quadra 950 is surprisingly quick. Rendering the pages is a bit slow, but not as slow as I would have expected. And what it does render, actually looks pretty damn good on this tiny 640 x 480 Apple Color Monitor.
Take a look...
I was looking for a half-assed decent browser to run on my Quadra 950, and I settled on Internet Explorer 4.01. Part of the Internet Explorer archive that I downloaded contained a little thing called Microsoft Personal Web Sharing.
I had never heard of Microsoft Personal Web Sharing before...
The question though, is what link to follow from that link. There's about 3 gazillion pieces of software at that site. Which ones are you telling him to use?
I seriously doubt it. The keyboard for the original Macs used an RJ11 type connector. The SE/30 uses a regular old ADB port. But anything is possible, I suppose, if you have the determination and know-how. How handy are you with electronics and soldering irons? Can you tell the...
Indeed, at least three of the above processors were not even used in the making of the post. [:P] ]'>
I've used Mozilla on a much less capable (300MHz OC'd 233MHz G3, 160 MB of RAM, 512KB L2 Cache, Mac OS 86) Beige G3, and it performed rather flawlessly. Good quick screen renders...
This card is not even tested. The seller has no idea if the thing even works. It comes with no software, and the seller points out that the software is next to impossible to find. There is no warranty of any kind, and eleven people have bid this thing up to $370.
Two huge risks here:
1)...
Just filling in a gap in a previous post. No harm in lightly touching on the entire EtherWave product lineup. Somebody... Somewhere... Sits at a Google screen slowly typing... f... a... r... a... ... e... t... h... e... r... w... a... v... e...
And, when they click their [RETURN]...
Mozilla runs fine on PowerMacs in Linux or *BSD. Mozilla also runs fine PowerMacs on in Mac OS X. There's only one version of Mozilla for Classic Mac OS that I know of... WAMCOM or whatever it's called. It's slow, but it still works better than most of the competition for the Classic Mac...
I have a Farallon EtherWave card in my LC III. So they were made for the LC PDS slot. I'm also using mine without a driver in System 7.5.3. So either Apple began supporting the Farallon EtherWave in Mac OS somewhere between the release of System 7.5 and 7.5.3, or the EtherWave PDS cards do...
What's the ribbon cable for? I have a card just like that from a 5200/6200, and the ribbon cable on it is about half the size. (half as many pins.) I have no idea what the ribbon cable slot on this card is for either.
Noticed something weird about WordPerfect today. I had to use GraphicConverter to scale some images for inclusion in a Word Perfect document, so I did that on my Beige G3. I was running a little low on time, so I created the WordPerfect document on the Beige G3 too.
Anyway, I'm running the...
I was actually screwing with a similar problem the other day. I had a bunch of images on my hard drive that would launch Graphic Converter when they were clicked on. I love GraphicConverter -- it's a great graphics utility for the Mac -- but when I just want to view images, I prefer to use...
I was playing with it last night. It's kind of interesting. I was playing with the tutorial clips that came with it. Mostly just fiddling with some of the transitions. Unfortunately, it's just a bit too slow on my Quadra 700 -- which has now found new life as a dedicated word...
I was looking through some of my old MacAddict CDROMs and I found this little gem. It is the full commercial version and it looks like it might be an interesting piece of 68k Mac nostalgia to play with.
I tinkered with it for a bit and haven't quite figured out how to use it. So I guess I'm...
