I used to do that with something call MI/X or something like that. It was fun for a while, but it got kind of boring after a bit. It was interesting running it on a 68k Mac though... It actually made surfing the Net on a 68k machine bearable.
Well, that was quick and painless. Just dropped the NIC into a PCIi slot, and rebooted the 7300. Then, I installed the RealTek driver in the extensions folder and rebooted again. Opened up my AppleTalk and TCP/IP control panels and selected "Ethernet Slot C1", got the MAC address by...
But you wouldn't be running an html server in MachTEN. Would you?
And I misinterpreted his script. I didn't see the "img src=" part. I was thinking that he was merely creating a text file containing a directory. So I was thinking:
$ ls >> file.html
But his little script would...
Don't know why you would want to do that, but to each their own. The resulting file would be a text file, not an html file. And there are much easier ways of doing the same thing with basic shell commands. Why script for something that doesn't need to be scripted?
I concur.
Does anyone have any experience with RealTek drivers on PCI PowerMacs?
I have a 7300 that had previously been running Linux. It is now running Mac OS 8.6 and connected to the network via the slow builtin 10base-T ethernet. I do have one fast ethernet card with a RealTek chip kicking around...
You will likely be forced to manually determine which module is bad. I know of several utilities to test memory, but neither tests specific modules. All tests confirm or deny the presence of bad memory, without saying which memory module is at fault.
The only way I can think of to isolate...
The screwdriver method is how the pros do it. I suppose the pros do it this way because they can be certain that the CRT is discharged. Equill's method provides no such certainty. That is why the procs say, "to be certain that the CRT is discharged..." Yada, yada, yada...
The safest and easiest way to discharge a CRT is to use the screwdriver method.
You will find a big suction cup like thing on your cathode ray tube. You want to take a flathead screwdriver and connect a ground wire to the shaft. Then you want to slide the grounded shaft of the screwdriver...
Bear in mind that "dishwasher" and "washing machine", the latter intended for cleaning of clothing or fabric materials, are not synonymous. One should never place a logic board or electrical device in a machine intended for washing clothing.
Needless to say, you should also resist the...
The 7300/200 is one of the best pre-G3 powermacs in my opinion. It's not a pain in the posterior to upgrade the RAM or replace the battery like the 9500 and 8500. It has a good number of RAM slots which makes putting a good amount of memory in the machines easy if you can only source 16 or...
Silverlining Lite will probably do it. It's a control panel that you stick in your control panels folder. Just download it from here, unstuff it, drop it in your control panels folder, and reboot your Quadra. Then just open the Silverlining Lite control panel, click on the little arrow to...
I don't know. I've never owned or used a Zip Drive. I don't know anything about them. I have an EZ135 drive that I used to use. I used Silverlining Lite to mount those disks. Why don't you try that?
Give me a few minutes, and I'll upload Silverlining Lite to my website for you.
My 7300 is running Debian Etch. Debian will install on the 7200 and run quite nicely in console mode. I had previously used the 7200 with Debian as a netbooting machine. It worked fine for that task. Now, though, with a much more capable machine running Debian, it's more practical to just...
Fragmentation wouldn't cause a startup problem. When files are fragmented, it just means that the files are stored in non-contiguous blocks on the drive. Defragmenting doesn't do anything but put your files in contiguous blocks. Which just means that your hard drive doesn't have to work as...
Are you by any chance using some bizarre CD ROM drive that requires a driver? I have a 12x Pioneer CDROM drive that will not mount disks without a driver. It's possible that you have two or more SCSI drivers that are competing for the same something... And your Zip drive is losing the...
I believe it is 8MB and that the Classic II has 32 bit addressing. If I'm not mistaken, the Classic II will not run anything earlier than System 7, save a special version of 6.08.
