...And if FWB HD Toolkit fails, then your beautiful nine gigabyte Seagate Barracuda drive is dead. It's dead, Jim!
I swapped the 2 gigabyte drive out of my Quadra 700 and replaced it with the Seagate Barracuda. I then tried to reinstall A/UX on to the new drive. Disaster struck. The A/UX...
I'm assuming you'll want a root account? I'll give you a root account on my Q700 if you want. Although the specs of the machine are rather limited: 25MHz 68040; 20 megabytes of RAM; no SSH as of yet, so you'll have to telnet to it -- or install SSH on it. [;)] ]'>
Let me know if you're...
Has anyone managed to get an MLDonkey server running on a 68k Macintosh? I'm not really concerned with which OS you may have gotten it running in; I'm just interested in knowing if it runs well enough on a 68k Mac for dedicated use.
My thinking is that I would setup my old Quadra as a...
A dead battery wouldn't give you the chimes. In my experience, the chimes of death are caused by bad memory most of the time. I would remove the RAM and the PDS card and give it a reboot. If it boots without the PDS and the SIMM, put the PDS back in and try it again.
Google is your friend. When I did a search on "FreeBSD pppd" the first hit was a howto configure FreeBSD as a ppp router. Exactly what you're trying to do.
That's all of the help I can provide. I don't use FreeBSD.
I wouldn't worry about it. The defaults should be fine. It should default to 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit. The only thing you need to chage is the speed. I'd recommend 38400 for a 68K Macintosh like your Powerbook. Just make sure that Zterm is configured for 8 data bits, no...
You cannot connect with MacSSH over the serial port. You'll have to use ethernet. Does your BSD box have an ethernet card? Does your Mac have an ethernet card? Do you have a hub/switch or crossover cable?
Using Zterm to connect to another machine over a null modem cable is easy. You...
You're the first person I've seen call the dozens of window managers a "feature". I suppose it would be a feature if you're of that disposition. The typical desktop user would choose between one of three or four available desktop environments though. (ie. Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etcetera)
Very...
I use Linux as my primary operating system for two reasons:
1) It's conducive to my "if...then" way of thinking. Although, admittedly, my "if...then" way of thinking is telling me that "if" I focus on computer use like I used to, "then" I will not be focusing on the more important things...
Linux makes more and more sense with each passing day. It's functionality, ability, and suitability to an ever growing range of tasks, is making Linux, excuse me, GNU/Linux, more and more relevant.
To be a successful alternative to the big two, (I like using auto industry parlance.) Linux...
I believe Linux does support SMP on the PowerMac. NetBSD, I don't believe does. Although I could be wrong about NetBSD; it's been years since I've tried it on an old world PowerMac. Version 2, I believe, was the last version of NetBSD I ever installed on a PPC Macintosh.
I did know that. I knew that because that's where I downloaded WP 3.5e from. I read the License that was included with that particular archive. [;)] ]'>
