    Power Macintosh 6500/225 (from WeirdStuff)

I took a look at the 9500s when I was there - they were both really rough (neither had hard drives and the one I opened to check didn't seem to have RAM either) and one was missing the power button on the front as well. They had them for $45 each I think but I'm sure they would take something...

    Power Macintosh 6500/225 (from WeirdStuff)

I went to the famous WeirdStuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale again. I might have just gone on a bad day (also hadn't been there in about 2 years or so), but their vintage Mac related pickings weren't as plentiful as they once were. I figured as much though.  Still got a working 6500/225 for $60...

    x2 Powerbook 100 for Free.99

It's been a while.  My additions to my collection have been pretty infrequent as of late. However, on Reddit I saw an ad for somebody giving away their old collection. They were nowhere near me (in NV) but I had a friend help me get the following: 1 PowerBook 100 (nicer condition) 1 PowerBook...

Just scored a free huge old Mac haul... what's this video connector?

Grats on the haul... I got some things too from the same guy with the help of a friend, glad you got everything else. Yeah unfortunately that card is a little useless if you don't have the Portrait display :(

Boxed Apple IIe/AppleColor Composite Monitor/ImageWriter II for $100

Hey all, haven't posted in the forum for a hot minute. Glad to see things are still going strong though. I got an Apple IIe (enhanced) with the Apple color composite monitor and Imagewriter II, all boxed, for $100. Only took a quick cellphone pic, but here it is (the IIe box is rough but the...

By far one of the biggest trades I've ever made!

Long story short, I'm getting the following via a trade on AppleFritter for my original Rev 0 Apple II board: Mint NeXTCube system, fully working IIfx (128 MB RAM, standard complement of cards) IIfx (victim of battery explosion, otherwise intact) Apple IIGS ROM 3 with AE PC Transporter Plus...

    J's Latest

Since I am actively searching out for more stuff, thought I'd make a continuous finds thread. Recently got a 9.1 GB 50-pin Seagate SCSI hard drive in exchange for a Chicony CH-471A Socket 3 motherboard I had lying around on another forum. Also managed to get another Freecycle score! So I...

Did my hard drive go bad?

Yeah, the TDK supplies are notably flaky. I have a stack of 5 dead ones I need to recap myself.

Did my hard drive go bad?

95% sure it's the caps. I would check the board again for any leakage.

Nice grab! If Macdrone ends up not wanting it I would be open to taking it depending on costs to 95070.

Macintosh Classic Color does not turn on

Thankfully it isn't too bad. Just try to clean it up the best you can with the alcohol.

Macintosh Classic Color does not turn on

You can fix corroded traces by soldering a small wire (I use small wires stripped from IDE hard drive cables) in place of where the traces would normally run. You can test if a trace is electrically broken with a multimeter. That fear really is baseless. The tantalum caps are superior to the...

Macintosh Classic Color does not turn on

First clean up the PRAM battery residue with a qtip and alcohol and check if there's any damage to traces or chips. It's a personal choice, really. Many people go for tantalums because they last longer, but some people like the aluminum electrolytics because of their stock look. The larger slot...

Macintosh Classic Color does not turn on

Nope, the monitor isn't connected to the motherboard in that way. You just need to pull carefully on the motherboard outwards. I would still strongly recommend replacing the caps. Even if they ultimately don't end up being the problem they're going to be at or beyond their serviceable life...

Macintosh Classic Color does not turn on

No special screwdrivers needed - you should just be able to unscrew two screws at the back and open the lid. You can slide out the motherboard from there. Make sure you press the Power button on the KB after you flick the switch on the back first. Kinda obvious suggestion, but it can be easy to...

LC II - first recap job!

Yup, it works with great sound and it boots off a drive now! Just tried it out :)

LC II - first recap job!

Thanks! I was worried about that a lot but thankfully the cap removal went along fine. I used a wire cutter to pinch off the top of the caps, desoldered the loose leads, and put on my new caps. Already bent the radials down!

LC II - first recap job!

So I finished my first ever recap job on my LC II, which had sound problems and gave me a Sad Mac on startup with any hard drive. Obviously my soldering skills are pretty crappy, and I didn't have two of the needed tants, but I got the job done! Going to clean this off and power it on tomorrow...
