i bought a UK english powerbook g3, is there any thing i have to do to swap it to US english other than just a language option in the OS and swap a keycap out for a US english 3?
8.6 or 9.1 are the best choices for it depending on what you want in an OS, and what else you have. i have two 9.2.2 machines...but only one 8.x machine. I am currently awaiting news on a source for 3400/Kanga Ram, both use the same ram card just some early ones do not work properly due to speed...
Already was removed by the seller in the UK. Also, i found a potential source for 128mb ram cards for 50 bucks. I won't link until i get the card in hand. it feels like a very old mom and pop business that doesn't know how to properly do e-commerce. it's stuck 20 years ago lol
I found a bernoulli drive with games on the 90mb disk...it was a stupid purchase but it felt right heh... i only have this system for SCSI, my other macs are a ibook g3/800, a 12" G4 1.33, a 2006 Macbook Pro (ati revision 2) and a 2015 retina MBP.
Edit: P.S. thank you Mu0n for the lead for the...
Nice, it is something that i do want to do in the future, Telnet/BBS/IRC would be fun to get running on it, would actually be a good use for it just for goofing with.
I did hear that some people have swapped fans out, is that even worth it?
I was thinking about how to get it online, i know for the commodore systems they have a serial to WiFi adapter. Would be fun to connect to a BBS or something.
so, i intend to send the analog board and the logic board off to my uncle to get recapped, console 5 offers a tantalum recap kit, is that even worth going after?
Other than recapping, is there anything i can do to make the system better in general, i know a Classic I is one of the most limited...
I only got it because i like the form factor, performance to me is not an issue. It will be fun to try some games on and do some word processing on. maybe load up Infocom's H2G2
I got a G3/800 ibook if i want fast, i just wanted a nice compact mac to look at and sometimes goof around with, it's a nice piece of computing history. i do intend to recap it and make it safe for the future.
I, for the first time since 2005....have liberated an actual 68k mac.
Found a rather decent Classic in working condition on eBay. 4MB (according to seller) of ram.
I apologize for the kitchen counter shots, but that is the only place i could take these photos that had enough light that would not throw my flash off.
Rescued an iBook G3 off ebay, i will be posting photos here as soon as i get it in.
Purpose of this system is to run os 9.2.2 (i also obtained the original restore disc set to install it) and not 10.x, i have a powerbook G4 17" for that (1ghz)
The prior owner of this system maxed the ram at...
Update, i got a free 16" Visible LG Flatron 775FT Monitor, it is a true-flat display with a flat inner and outer tube, it was in its original box and everything. G4 looks great with this CRT.
I also have 1gb of PC133 Ram on its way.
I have been reading about how you can use a Quicksilver CPU in a Digital Audio powermac, but it has to have a 12 Volt connection, anyone here know how to do that or know of a guide online?
