ADC breaks out to DVI pretty cheaply, because it carries the same video signal and the adaptor just ignores the extra power/sound/usb pins. (does ADC actually have sound?)
Once you have DVI, a DVI-HDMI cable is pretty cheap too for a no-name one.
For the CRT, DVI-VGA adaptors are dirt cheap...
G4s were 1999-2003, plus a little longer because Apple kept selling G4 towers for people who needed OS 9 bootability.
G5s were only 2003-2006, and not only that but the Intel transition was announced in June 05 so I bet they didn't sell too many of them in that last year.
A rough estimate...
Again, rebranding is different from using another manufacturer's engine. I find it hard to believe that early StyleWriters were rebranded since they look nothing like any other model of printer I've seen. The test page stored in ROM also insinuates that Apple was behind the control software.
That looks a lot like the mod to increase the size of the RAMs on the Mac mobo by "piggybacking" them, except as you said that only one looks to have been done in this way!
Perhaps the original RAM on the bottom died prematurely and it was "replaced" with another of the same size using the...
Yes indeed, aside from some of the very late model StyleWriters I believe every other printer they branded was made by them.
Laser print engines often came from Canon especially in the early days of the industry, which is why toner carts are cross-compatible. It doesn't mean that LaserWriters...
If you're really on a budget I think a G5 can be a good buy still. From the sounds of your post though, 10.5/10.6 compatibility seems like a big deal and PCI/hard disk expandability not important to you so I think you would be much better served with a new iMac or Mini.
I'd never actually seen a 8500 board before; that does look like a very unique layout.
What does the daughterboard plug into, that dark grey slot above the PCI? What are the large empty PLCC solder pads for?
If it comes with a legit CS3 then it could be worth it.
There was a tip on macosxhints today about getting the capacitors fixed on iMac G5s.

I remember hearing about a very similar error message on an old game that needed sound. I believe the error message was "This application can not run on the Mac XL" rather than "Lisas out! Get a Mac! ;)
Turned out that the author had simply written a check for the Mac's model name, and then...
I got one of my friends to tell me how he did it with his G4 iBook. He had to boot into Open Firmware and run a command to do it, but it (USB DVD-ROM) worked.
Hmm, that sounds odd to me. I thought the three states were:
Off - cannot be turned on at all.
On - can soft power on/off as normal.
Locked - ADB input is disabled, will turn itself on and stay on whenever it has power.
Can anyone confirm?
