    Disconnecting CRT from powerboard

That attaching band is built in as part of the CRT isn't it? I would think any replacement you get will have one included.

    Classic II logic board differences

I have 4 Classic II's. Only difference I can see is one did not have holes for the sound to pass through. Where was the speaker located in the one you refer to?

    Classic II logic board differences

Both built in Singapore, and both boards indicate they were assembled there too. Pina's book lists the part numbers for the 4 chip ROM board only which is odd as it's dated 1993 which is after these machines were made. Part numbers on the two chip ROMS are 341-0261 and 341-0257 and made by Samsung.

    Classic II logic board differences

In these two, the speakers are located in the same place - front lower edge of the analog board. One has holes in the case bucket for the speaker and the other doesn't. Where did the speakers get relocated to?

    Classic II logic board differences

After looking through all the topics in this forum, I don't see that this has come up before; my apologies if it has. I have two logic boards, both marked as Classic II and dated 1991 - one numbered 820-0401-A with 4 ROM chips, the other numbered 820-0626-B with 2 ROM chips. The first one (4...

    400k floppy drive woes

I have done three of these 400K drives that were stuck; all of them it was the eject lever mechanisms that were so plugged with old grease they would not move. It took several days of allowing new lubricant to penetrate the old grease and wiping the excess away before they would properly function.

    Macintosh SE for £1

An SE I got a few months ago had the HD stuck. I took it out of the Mac and smacked it on the desk (quite hard actually) and it now runs fine. I seem to recall this being refer from the old grease inside hardening up.

    Just out of curiosity...

Not sure if it's a related issue or not, but for the last two days I have been getting a "can not connect - user has exceeded bandwidth, try again later" message (not those exact words) and couldn't get connected even after several attempts.

    What went 'pop'?

Just a thought re the floppy drive.... In your first post you mentioned the floppy disk it was shipped with pops back out. Is this why you say it won't read a disk or have you got a disk to stay in now? If it won't stay in, then you can fix this floppy drive - it's all the old, hardened grease...

Mac Plus and some other goodies

I got a Mac Plus from a Kijiji ad today. $50 with it's keyboard and mouse, and it came with a Kensington System saver and Lacie external HD. Along with it I was given another box of odd bits which included an Iomega SCSI Zip drive and 2 Asante Friendly Net units. Also a couple of those...

LCII, Performa 6200, Performa5260, OneScanner, and much more

That's good to hear - always nasty to have to make such a choice! I was going to suggest you make multiple trips (that's what I would do) but sounds like the problem has solved itself. Luckily I have a car, and will be making a 4 hour round trip tomorrow to rescue a Plus :)

    Site Unresponsive?

Last evening (Wed) I could not get on the forums at all - kept getting a 500 error "internal server error" screen. The night before I had the same thing but was able to eventually get on. Tried to send Tom a screen shot to the address contained in the error but it came back as "user unknown"...

    Unjamming a 400K Floppy Drive

Has anyone got any secrets as to unjamming the eject mechanism on a 400K floppy drive? I have removed the mechanism from the electronic parts and tried lubing with penetrating oil, and soaking in a degreaser. It is jammed solid. In fact I have two of them that are jammed this way. Any ideas...

An SE/30 that has a socketed motherboard is on eBay

I believe the earliest of these boards were manufactured this way. The one I have has not been modified, and I seem to recall reading this to be the case somewhere. UPDATE: According Larry Pina's book "Mac Classic & SE Repair and Upgrade Secrets" there were two SE/30 motherboards: P/N...

An SE/30 that has a socketed motherboard is on eBay

Happy to... http://www.flickr.com/photos/16539524@N00/3295765835/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/16539524@N00/3295765791/ I got this board in a large Freecycle load. Apparently NOS and looks to be so. I can't decide if I should put this into an SE/30 case that...

An SE/30 that has a socketed motherboard is on eBay

I have an SE/30 mobo just like the auction one and it has the socketed gold topped CPU. The socket itself is almost 1/4 inch tall - I'd say the one in the auction is socketed from the appearance and shadow; however if I were buying solely on that reason I'd check with the seller. As JDW states -...

    Replacement RAM Chips

Way back, I had posted asking about RAM chips on a 128K board and was told they are a 4164 DRAM chip.

    Welcome back!

I quite like this look! My only comment is that it would be nice if the signature portions could be better marked - that line is quite faint and the sig appears as if it's part of the post. Maybe this will be less of a concern after a while; after all we're only a few days into this new version...
