Going to recap tomorrow after the board is completely dry. First, for the caps should I wiggle them off or apply fresh solder and lift while melted? Second, how should I properly clean the board? I have 91 percent alcohol, but the last time I washed a board it left white areas after it dried...
I was wondering the same thing too. How much vram does it really need? I think the 475 originally came with 512k. I wonder if the SIMM from my LC ii is just 256k.
Well I have a Performa 475 here, got this one from jt. First time I flipped the switch I get a somewhat slow death chime. If I turn it off an on quick I get a happy chime and then a quicker death chime. Missing vram so I grabbed the stick from my LC to throw in there. I think a recap and a...
Well I stopped by Goodwill today and picked up a nice rolling office chair for 8 bucks. But I spotted one vintage apple product... A lonely cable all by itself. Not sure what it was used for, clearly not adb but probably for printer or modem. All I know is the connectors have a wonderful Apple...
Also I have another question. The IIci has a video card of some sort. I also plugged into that too. I'll have to check that later. Will any avg CRT work too?
OK so my VGA adapter arrived today. The generic one with the switches. Well I have a Acer wide screen LCD that I want to use with the Macintosh IIci. I would like to know what to switch on and off on the adapter. I set it for VGA with 640x480 and got no signal.
I tested voltage from the connector to the main board. I wash the motherboard with alcohol and scrubbed it good with a tooth brush. I then used canned air on it.
The first time after recap:
Black screen, Startup chime, death chime (repeated), Horizontal line flashed on the screen.
I turned it...
I inspected the board and didn't find anything else. Everything looks fine. I especially checked the area where I damaged the board. Everything seems like its fine still. Checked with my meter and can't find anything wrong.
Scratch what I said. This has to be a very quiet se lol. With the case off I can hear the speaker pop and its so hard to see but the monitor does glow. Time to poke around. Probably UE8?
Update. Maybe the board isn't even getting power? Even though the fan turns, I thought the monitor would glow from the back even though its not displaying a picture? I have the back off. Only thing getting power is the fan. Guess I could check to see if the board is getting power or not.
Well I am going to pull it back out tonight and take some better pics and try to figure out whats going on. Instead of starting another topic, I decided to boot up my other SE/30 last night. Still boots but a solid Hard Drive light and then flashes the floppy icon. Turned it off and turned it...
Well I got my new soldering iron tips today so I decided to try to get this thing going again, no luck. On the back of the board I found a bridged solder joint. Fixed that, and I touched up some of the areas I damaged around that 470uf cap on the back side. Everything tested good on my meter. I...
I probably should have went with them instead of aluminium caps... Oh well. Btw, I used Mouser for my first order but on my second order, I went with Allied Electronics... Some things were half the price lol.
Will turning the pot bring the lines back to the way it was? Can I do this while its on? Second, is it possible to test anything like the transistor without removing the analog board or discharging the crt?
