two PCs from the Frankston (victoria) Recycling joint

G'day Bunsen, Good scores. The Frankston joint isn't as well set up as the Outlook ones are, the Frankston Tip operation is run out of two shipping containers, and a shed up the back where the e-waste gets stripped out. The prices are good though, I picked up the 2 PCs for a dollar each, and...

two PCs from the Frankston (victoria) Recycling joint

Picked these up yesterday (Sunday)… One is a Pentium-S (?) running at 150Mhz, 12xCD-ROM, 1.2gig HD, Soundblaster something, 32 megs of RAM. Case is clean, solid build, little wear, 2x5.25 inch bays, I'm thinking a motherboard swap at some point. Might drop a faster CD in, and see if I can get...

    Upgrading a 575 and maybe my 580

Register… I took a look, but neither myself or my mate are into overclocking. He's done board swaps to see if it can be done, but as with my machines, they're unmodded other than being upgraded. Jordi…Thanks for the offer, my friend, but I'm too much of a purist to board-swap any of my...

    Upgrading a 575 and maybe my 580

Folks, I'm going to be doing some upgrades on a mate's LC 575 at some point. Bit more RAM if it needs it, If I have spares i want to part with, and larger capacity hard drive and a faster CD-ROM drive. But before I plunge in, I thought I'd research… Well, I thought I'd try and research…...

iBook battery reset => Back alive?

Folks, I have the same problem as Didius, but different. Couple of months ago, I rescued a 'dead' iBook (G3/300) at an AUSOM meeting, I was told by the person that gave it to me, that it was dead, this condition had been diagnosed by an alleged expert. Okay, it'll fill a slot in the...

Can't Eject PC card from PB 1400

Thanks for that, Wally. Your mentioning tape gave me an idea, attach a peices of tape to the outside end of the card, leaving tabs big enough to grasp so the card can be pulled if needed. it should work in theory, anyway Nick

Can't Eject PC card from PB 1400

I got the card out. Turns out the eject mechanism for the lower bay doesn't work for reasons unknown, the card came out with no resistance. The upper bay eject works fine, however Card is a Dayna CommuniCard. have just downloaded drivers and am about to install. next stop, the net.

Can't Eject PC card from PB 1400

Spewing. Got given some PC stuff a couple of days ago, and in amongst it there was a PC card ethernet adapter, I was quite excited, Mum was mad that I had yet more junk, so in an effort to explain what the thing did, I inserted it into the lower bay on one of my 1400s. And went and hid the...

    Two sort of Conquests

G'day Bunsen, Frankston is where I am. The recycling place I picked up the IIsi and iMac is the Outlook recycling centre in Mornington (over the road from the racecource). I've heard Frankston Tip has a shop as well, but I've never had the oportunity to go and have a poke around.

    Two sort of Conquests

I know, but it just felt weird, that's all. And being realistic about it, it was really the only choice I had. Thing is, I have trouble doing it to PCs as well. If the machine is in working order, I'd prefer to keep it that way. I have about four or five PCs, two I keep for testing of PC...

    Two sort of Conquests

Yeah, looking at the mess inside there was no way I could get the thing running again. I'll have to do the same to a couple if dead IIci's, a long overdue promise I made to my parents when I got my shed, that I'd go through all my stuff and get rid of the junk. :( In the case of the ci's...

    Two sort of Conquests

Byrd, PMd you. LCGuy, I was going to take a picture, but at the time I was just too tired, so I took out the parts I wanted to keep and tossed the rest in the recycling bin. I did keep the rubber feet off the base, and Apple off the front. Nick

    Two sort of Conquests

The other week I went with a mate to a recycling centre, and after a quick look around, headed for the computer section, pretty bare, couple of PCs, and then I saw it, platinum, turned out to be a IIsi, okay, well, I pop the case, and my heart sank, something had happened, something had...

Hotline Servers... Anyone still use them?

Re: 300 Baud MODEMs. I still have my Sendata 700 Series 300/300, 1200/75 Accoustic Coupler that I used for ages to get into AUSOM's BBS back in the day. Re: Hotline. Adam Hinkley was an AUSOM member back in the day when he developed the server and client, he got stiffed by the company that...

    Three more Machines

Re the 630…May have a dead PSU. :( Will investigate wether it's repairable, if not, will part out. Re the 6100… Not booting reliably, possibly a dead PRAM Battery, and when I do get it to boot, it seems to have very little RAM, and if booted from the internal drive I get a 'Bus Error'...

LCII and PC something and odds and ends

Hard rubbish in Frankston. Starts today, parents are going out, so I might go for walkies. If anyone has time and wheels, pop down and we can do the rounds. I'll supply the munchies. For anyone that's interested, the LCII is configured thus… VRAM is maxed out as is the RAM, and it's got an...

LCII and PC something and odds and ends

Ooh yeah I got in trouble, but with what I got I think it was worth it, the PC should be ready to roll as is, I may have scored more stuf, because my sis was one of the people that stuck around to pack things up, so it might be two PCs and some monitors, and some keyboards. I was spewing a bit...

LCII and PC something and odds and ends

Went to a local school fete before and lib'd an LCII and a PC of some description for $5. Teacher who was on the stall said she also owned an SE, but I couldn't convince her to part with it. She looked and sounded like a nice lady so I offered my services if she ever had problems. I also...
