It could be a number of things. First replace the battery.
Disconnect everything except the mouse and keyboard. Turn on the Mac Plus and you should hear the start up chime and see the flashing question mark. If you get the sad mac face then you have a RAM/motherboard/analog board issue to...
Well, they no longer refrence it to a Mac Plus, 128k or 512k.
They list it as a PHOTO battery. Just don't tell them that you are going to use it in a Mac!
I recall around 1987 or so a company that was offering AMBER replacement screens for the 128, 512, and Mac Plus. I always wanted one. Seemed neat!
Anyone know which company it was and whose tube they were using? And is it available today?
Thanks!
Having 128K of RAM was a resonable amount of memory for a charater based computer. Z80 and 6502 computers had 64K limits (most had ways to bank switch in 16K or 8K blocks) so having 128K of linear memory on a 68000 seemed good.
I was using a Sinclair ZX81 that I had expaneded to 64K (16k ROM...
When I return from Iraq in June I need to get a PS laser printer that will work with my 6.0.8 printer drivers from my MacPlus machine. A few years ago my original LaserWriter died and was not fixable.
The question is, which printer should I get? Will any PS comaptable laser printer work? My...
Lots of good stuff here! A worth while project would be to identify (with photos) the evelution & versions of the 128k motherboard. Once we have that established we could then discuss what drove the engineering changes.
Then when we speak about "Revison 2 motherboard" eveyone know exactly...
A while back there was a site that was using a Mac Plus for a web server. I can't find it.
Anyone know where it is? Or ANY site that is being run on a Mac Plus?
I found one site running on an SE/30 but I'm looking for one using a Mac Plus.
Thanks!
I don't have the date of mfg of my 128k board or revision but I do not recall there being any difference as it relates to upgrability of the 128k boards. For the decode logic I used a Bit9 card from Ken Wilhelm; AFAICR it worked with all versions of the 128k mb. When I said traces I was...
Here's the best way I've found to network old
Macs.
1. You need an Asante SCSI to Ethernet adapter for the Mac Plus. They will work with 6.0.8.
2. Here's the catch: The Asante SCSI adapters ONLY work with a PURE 10MBS Ethernet hub. They DO NOT work with 10/100 hubs. It took me six...
Apple could have released the 512k instead of the 128K - they had 512k macines in Feb of 1984 (I met a developer who had been seeded one). The cost would have pushed the retail price over $3,000. Instead of the RAM they bundled the ImageWriter printer with it. $2500 plus $250 tax made the...
I have a MacEnhacer from Microsoft that is missing the power supply. It has an uncommon connector. Anyony know where I can get a power supply for it? I also have the software & connecting cable.
I had always wanted one of these when I first got my 128K Mac but they were pricey. AFAIR...
CharlieMan,
In theory yes you could. But you would be limited to MFS and a large drive (20 MB) would soon bog down with all the files in the root. That is why Apple brought out HFS. MFS is for floppies.
A 5mb device lile a ProFile might work ok under MFS but why bother?
I just run my...
Actually this is controlled by the BIOS where the type and capacity of the drive is stored. DOS simply gets the data from the BIOS (on POST it is stored in a Low Global). You can set a 3.5 1.4mb drive up as a 720K drive in the BIOS and DOS will treat it as such.
Mac128,
It's the boot blocks. They are in the expected location on the 6.0.4 disk and the boots blocks indicate a system is present. When the 64K ROMS try to find it, it can't thus the error code.
