Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Go to the drive's MFG site and see if they have a copy of EZDrive. That will fix the 8 gig limit without a BIOS update. I have P1 MOBO that suffers from the 8 Gig limit and EZ Drive works well. For more info on size issues see...
I wasn't trying to be funny. I was just pointing out that the market recogized exacly what you are saying and offered internal fans for the Plus, 512k, and 128k. If there wasn't a need, why offer it?
The Radius FPD and 16 MHZ accelerator for the Plus included a fan. I put a fan in a Plus...
Well, you can always try it and see what happens. 3.5" hard drives draw about 3 amps on startup on the 12v line. Watts = v * amps so 3 * 12 is 36 watts. Look up the specs of your hard drive and see what it draws. If it draws 2 amps then it's 12 * 2 or 24 watts.
CD-Rom drives draw less...
The Road to OS X Panther (10.3.x) B&W G3 Revision 1 Motherboard
(NOTE: I did this in Jan of '07 and posting it here for future reference)
After a couple of weeks battling with my B&W G3, I have finally gotten OS X Panther loaded onto my Blue & White G3 revision 1 system. There were...
There were a number of 3rd parties that offered internal fans for the Plus. They had wires that would clip onto the 12V feeds from the analog board and would mount to the metal frame.
Just add a 3.5" IDE to 2.5" IDE adapter and use a 2.5" IDE drive. You will have plenty of space. You can get a 4 or 6 gig 2.5" IDE drive for next to nothing and that will make 2 or 3 HFS partitions of 2 gigs each. That will keep your CC going for a long long time!
I had an external case that helds two 5.25 floppy drives that I used with my Sinclair ZX81. I converetd it to hold a 3.5" 40 MB SCSI (Connor as I recall) drive and a Chinon CD-ROM drive that I used with my upgraded 128K SCSI Mac. I could never get it to see or install/boot from the hard drive...
Alan,
You might not have enough amps from the Power supply. PS for floppy drives normally can't power a hard drive let alone a hard drive and a CD.
The next issue will be the internal SCSI ribbon cable. I don't think that there is enough room to stack the drives so you will have to crimp a...
AF,
I'd replace the battery and zap the PRAM. And reformat and clean insatall.
I have an old external drive case that I keep the top off. I pull drives out of the orginal drive, set the SCSI ID to 2, pop it into the external case and clean up the drive on another Mac. Makes it easy to...
I've been looking for a list of the first 100 software packages released for the Mac. Any one have such a list?
It would also be interesting to get a list of all Mac software that was released in 1984 (not announced but shipping).
1984 Packages I remember are Chart, Multiplan, File, MacEdge...
That's why a Cray is more effeicient. You don't need 1100 CPUs to to get to the Super Computer range.
In any event, it's never the CPUs that are the bottlenecks, it's the I/O channels that always lag the CPU.
I'd be interested in seeing what type projects get approved for the CPU time.
What? No dual floppies 5.25 & 3.5 with a Q80 tape drive? Keep adding!
Where's the SoundBalster card? How much RAM?
What OS are you using? It will run W2K!
You can get the AIIe network card that uses Local Talk connectors and share ProDos files to an AppleShare 2.0.1 server. Works well.
.
It one reason I run AppleShare 2.0.1 on an SE/30.
As I recall the Tour ran FULL screen and auto booted instead of the finder. It didn't follow the Mac UI. It was written to run on a 128K single 400K floppy drive. You had to work hard to see the the system stuff on the disk.
Does anyone know if it takes you to the Finder when you get to the...
If you have the fist CD issue of "Develop" it has all the systems software for the Mac on it (Except for 6.0.6 AFAICR). I don't know about the Tour Disk. I remember that .97 was on it; I think I pulled .85 off of my Tour disk.
Dang, I wish I had my Mac stuff here so I could check it
Anyone...
I don't need the print server so I guess I will try the file server under 8.1.
Next step is to locate a copy of AS 4.0.1. Any suggestions? I didn't see any on ebay.
Rats! I spent an hour reading that last night but missed the 7.1. I wanted 8.1 so I could use HFS+ on the 9 gig shared drive as a single volume. So I will have to break it down to HFS 2 gig partitions.
What size boot drive will be needed? Seems to me a 160mb ought to do it.
