I never found a screen saver that would run on a 128K Mac. At least when mine still had 128K in it (1986) I cut the RAM chips off my 128K MOBO and installed sockets & 512K on it as all software seemed to need 512k. I still have it :)
DiskManager Mac had a special version (2.4.x Plus ???) for the MacPlus just for this reason. It puts a special driver on the hard drive so the Mac Plus will always be able to see it.
I found my 68040 33MHz CPU. :) It's on a 575 MOBO I picked in 2006 to build a Mystic. Completly forgot about it. I'll swap them around to night.
My intent is to push the 605 to 40MHz. Seems possible but heat will be an issue.
Thanks all. I measured the CPU top area that's clear and it's about 45mm (front to back) x 37mm (side to side) x 20mm high. I'll dig through my junk bins and see what I can come up with. Now to find that 33MHz CPU that's around here somewhere!
Here's a photo of my Q605 with 128MB RAM that shows the heatsink issue:
And another view:
Any ideas on a heatsink? How would I hold it in place? No way I'm giving up the 128MB of RAM :) !
Well, I was gettin' ready to over-clock the Q605 when I looked at the CPU. It's marked:
X668040HRC25M
Which is a 25 MHZ chip, not a 33MHz like I thought. I put all my Mac 68xxx gear in storage in Dec 2006 and I *know* I bought a 33MHz CPU for it. Which means that the 33MHz CPU chip is...
I gave Ethernet a go but I have issues. I can't get the Mac to see the LaserJet.
How do I configure the LaserJet driver with the IP address of the LaserJet 4? This is getting way too hard.
The hub works. The cables work. The printer works as I tested all these with my WinXP computer. Any...
So I'm getting my Quadra 605 back running. Everything is ok EXCEPT for Ethernet. I have an LC III PDS Asante Ethernet card installed. Ran the latest Asante installer no issues. Asante diagnostics say the card is fine.
I get no blinky lights on the card or at the hub. I set AppleTalk to...
I haven't bought a floppy in over 15 years. I have a box of 'junk" floppies that I re-use when I need a floppy. The box dates back to the mid 90's with disks from the 80's (AOL provided me with a crapload of floppies). I give them a full slow format. I toss about 1 in 20 I'd say. Last year...
I've got three 14" lcds (1024x768 native) that I use with my Macs. The last one I bought I paid $10 for from a pawn shop - it's a Dell. The others are an HP & a no-name. They all worked well with my Quadra 605.
I've found that the issue is usally with the adapter not the monitor. For the...
In the SCSI chain, bandwidth is SHARED. If you have 7 hard drives in the SCSI chain and they are all going at the same time they get 1/7th of the bandwith.
If there is just one hard drive in the chain that is active it gets all of the bandwidth. With tape drives, ZIP dridve, and CD-ROMs...
For reasons I'd rather not go into, Ethernet is off-limits to my Quadra. I found a JetDirect card on ebay that has AppleTalk/LocalTalk on it. Cost was only $13. I have a box of AppleTalk/PhoneTalk connectors in my storage unit. I spent some time screwing with the serial port but it's a dead...
I have a loaded HP Laserjet 4. It has the PostScript SIMM, 26 MB ram (max it can have with the PS SIMM), extra high capacity paper tray, and the PS font cartridge. The JetDirect card does *NOT* have a Local Talk port.
I have the proper Apple serial cable and want to drive the printer via the...
It's been a while since I've had my Quadra 605 running. Packed all my Apple stuff up Dec 2006 preparing to move my family to Georgia whil I visited Iraq. Had it back up Jan of 2011 but had to move to Florida for my job. Moved back to Georgia this summer and setup the Quadra in my spare...
Guys,
If you live in the Orlando FL area and want some free Macs send me a PM. I have a source who wants to dispose of a lot of 68K Macs - free. He will NOT ship so please don't ask.
Thanks! Will check the speaker contacts.
I have the Apple Hi-Res but wanted a larger LCD disply. I guess I'll have to get a NuBus video card for it. Or the Apple Portait monitor :b&w:
