kvanderlaag tries to buy a B&W G3 - hilarity ensues

Hurr, I suppose that's what I meant. My upgraded Power Mac 7600 is running a flashed Voodoo 3 2000 PCI, so I've been around the block a few times in this flashing game. Right now I'm sort of torn between one of the following: - Radeon 7000 PC w/ 'borrowed' BIOS - GeForce 2 MX (400) w/ flashed...

kvanderlaag tries to buy a B&W G3 - hilarity ensues

I am a dirty filthy liar. It's a 350 MHz B&W, not 450. Other than that, though, everything checks out okay. 128mb RAM, 6 GB hard drive, and it's running 9.2 happy as a clam. Local shop sells 256mb PC133 DIMMs for $4 a piece, so I'm going to toss 1 GB of RAM in there, and then see what I...

    iBook G4

True, but only the first few times. I have a weird habit of taking stuff apart just because, so I ended up disassembling and reassembling my 12" G4 probably a dozen times for more or less no good reason. Now it's just a reflex. :)

kvanderlaag tries to buy a B&W G3 - hilarity ensues

I am the terror that crawls in the night. And by "terror that crawls in the night," I actually mean "loser who prowls the local Craigslist and Kijiji listings for old Macs." (Kijiji is a similar site owned by eBay, more popular in Canada than the States, I think.) Recently, I decided I needed a...

    The Mother of All Conquests

I am a jealous, jealous man right now. Any unwanted goodies among the haul of audio gear? ;)

    iBook G4

I've taken apart way too many of these for the top case to be a concern. Get a spudger (rather than a flathead screwdriver, if you value the way it looks) and just be very careful with the all the cables and connectors.

    Internet on a Powerbook Duo

I actually just ordered a CF-IDE adapter. Apparently these work very well in the 2300c. CF to SCSI would be a bit of a trick. Maybe I should look into that one for 280c owners.

    Internet on a Powerbook Duo

Ding ding. We have a winner. I have some friends who DO have the hardware hacking skills. Basically, I want to build an ethernet adapter into a floppy adapter's chassis, and use some of the unused address/data pins on the PDS connector to allow a custom control panel and extension to modify the...

    A 'few' Ebay Purchases

If you end up with a spare, working Wallstreet, or one that needs relatively little to become functional again, I would be highly interested in purchasing one! A 12" would be DELIGHTFUL!

Help Me, I Want a Newton and Don't Know Why

Not so - it works okay for me. I think the issue is that it's being hosted locally somewhere around here, running an HTTP server off a Newton. I can imagine this would be a little bit tempermental where connections are concerned. You folks have provided a lot of good info - thanks! I think...

Questions about Duo 230 and 2300c

Good lord, I hadn't even thought about that. I'm having a hell of a time getting my Duo to recognize larger drives (by which I mean a 2GB and a 6GB that should be ATA-3 and ATA-5 respectively, I think) - I hadn't even considered using a CF-IDE adapter. Do you mind if I ask which one you're...

Help Me, I Want a Newton and Don't Know Why

I have absolutely no reason to want a Newton. I have a Nokia N800, I have a Palm Zire 72, I have a BlackBerry for a phone, and all kinds of other gadgets and gizmos that have been exceptionally effective in serving my personal data needs. The Nokia N800 in particular is one of the most capable...

    A 'few' Ebay Purchases

You'll be delighted with the 2300c, I'm sure. It's quite a capable little machine - or at least, mine would be if it wasn't riddled with issues. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any questions, I've accumulated an awful lot of little tidbits of knowledge and hardware curiosities in the past...

Questions about Duo 230 and 2300c

Keep in mind that most of these batteries are very old by now, and almost all of them are dead or very near it. I don't have the links on me right now - I'll post them when I get home - but there are very good rebuilding guides available online, and you will do well to use Sanyo HR-AUL cells as...

    Internet on a Powerbook Duo

Wow, I sure do wish Chiefs-Trading-Post shipped internationally. =( I could use a NewerTechnology Floppy adapter or two to cannibalize for evil. And by evil, I mean WiFi.

    A 'few' Ebay Purchases

I was considering bidding on that 2300c - I could really use a bunch of junk out of it. I'm glad you picked it up, though, if you're going to use it as a system. I hate pulling parts from stuff I know other people could use. Good score on those Duos - they were local to you, were they not? Or...
