    Disk Image Utlity?

Thank you both. This information is much appreciated. I feel silly; I’ve seen Disk Copy Utility for decades but never thought that I could do what I wanted. I stand corrected! I have the 3400c and 2400c specific installer CD-ROMs. I’ll make a Toast backup of those. I recall seeing Disc Copy...

    2400c No-Start after PRAM removal

Additional note: Plugged in, the speaker emits a faint hissing sound.

    Disk Image Utlity?

I have a few PowerBooks running their original install and I'd like to create a disk image to archive them. Are there any suggestions on freeware or abandonware utilities for System 7?  I came across a download for Dantz Retrospect, but it doesn't list disk imaging as part of it. Thank you!

    2400c No-Start after PRAM removal

Sigh....After taking the board out, checking the connections, and reassembling, still no boot. If I push in the functional battery or the plug it into AC, the speaker pops but that's it. The PMU reset button is very flimsy. After several attempts at holding it in for 10+ seconds to reset the...

    2400c No-Start after PRAM removal

I'm sorry to hear that you're having the same problem. I haven't tried again yet but I plan to this weekend. I'm going to take it apart again and double check the connections.

    550c Cap Issue?

Thank you, Byrd. I can pull it and swap again with the 540 for another test. My goal for the 550 is to be mobile so I'll be looking at the SCSI2SD adapter with a SLC SD card. One and done, hopefully. I'll miss the mechanical sound.

    550c Cap Issue?

Thank you, Crutch. If the brick that came with my 550 is the original, it matches the OE brick of my 540c. Update: I swapped the RAM from the 550 to 540 and so far so good. There haven't been any of the issues the 550 was experiencing. It's a 32MB module, so I hope it's not faulty. So, does...

    550c Cap Issue?

I clearly lost track of time entirely. Thank you for your replies. If the RAM is indeed the problem, I do have a 540c that could lend its RAM for a test. To the best of my memory, all three 5xx models used the same power adapter. Is that correct? Ok, off to build up the courage to open up two...

    2400c No-Start after PRAM removal

Hi Byrd. Thank you for your reply. Yes indeed, the leads that came out are corroded. It's no wonder that it was acting up prior to. By cleaning do you mean ensuring that the connections are clean and properly seated? While I'm asking questions, I forgot to ask one earlier: Does the screen flex...

    2400c No-Start after PRAM removal

I see I'm jumping on the 2400c thread bandwagon as of late. I was very happy to read about how to keep these happy. To that end, I removed the PRAM battery tonight and ran into a problem. I used a great YouTube video and the Apple Service Source manual for the disassembly instructions. Before...

    3400c backlight issue

I have not run into this problem but it inspired me browse through the Repair Source manual (I'll include it). Page 11 suggests that if the backlight doesn't operate after checking connections, replace inverter board. The board layout is on page 177 but not that clear. If the caps are the same...

    Troubleshooting upgraded IIci

Thank you once again, beachycove. The IIci is now back to normal, with on-the-fly resolution changes available. I appreciate the link. It's nice to have classic documentation so easily available. The hunt for such information can be tedious at times. After the startup combo and a restart, the...

    Sonnet Tempo ATA/133 7.6?

Ah that's right! I did forget that DV via FireWire did fall under the Reign of 7. As long as the card doesn't crash 7.6.1, dual booting 7 & 8, with 8 being the mass storage OS, is a functional idea.

Starup Bomb "Code Fragment Could Not Be Prepared"

I appreciate your reply, CC_333. I was able to rectify it  by reinstalling the System Folder. I had actually forgotten that you can do that without disturbing programs, files, etc. I never did figure out what caused it. I removed anything related to the TI program but still had that error. I...

    Troubleshooting upgraded IIci

Quick update: one problem solved- the 601 card. I went into Control Panels in the "Previous System Folder" (the one with all the PPC extensions) and re-enabled it. Unfortunately, I still have no monitor resolution options.

    Troubleshooting upgraded IIci

There are two different issues going on and one lead to the other. The machine is a recapped IIci with DayStar Turbo 601 PPC and Radius Precision Color 24X cards. It's running 7.6.1 with 128MB RAM and a SCSI2SD. Issue 1: I have installed what should be the correct Radius software. All the...

    550c Cap Issue?

Addendum: I was able to boot from the external SCSI to load 7.6.1. The machine crashed during installation during installation of "Finder." I rebooted from the CD and was given a Bus Error bomb again. Then on the 3rd try (still booting from CD), it froze during start up. I'm tempted to try again...

    Performa 575 Issues

I'm of limited help but I can offer a few bits. Does the CD-ROM make any sound at all? Hopefully someone who has more experience can chime in but short of that, you could browse eBay for a replacement or an external SCSI drive. I've attached the repair manual for this Performa series. NetBoot...

    550c Cap Issue?

Thanks, Byrd. I've got an update that unfortunately, hasn't given me many answers. The CD-ROM works perfectly with my other machines and I don't have a multimeter here to test a clean +12V. I checked the HD and RAM connections and they look properly seated. With both (discharged &amp...
