Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Lightly with a fine microfiber edge with no change. Before I try rubbing alcohol or anything else, I wanted to post the image/question here. With the recent examples of other PowerBook displays losing polarizing film and such, I'm worried about making it worse before knowing more.
It really...
I've had this 550c for almost two years and I'd say this "stain" appeared about three months ago. No change in location: out of the sun in a climate-controlled office. It came out of nowhere as far as I can tell.
There does appear to be a stain on the plastic bezel but I'm not certain its...
My 8600 had a similar issue a few years ago with a M1212 CRT. I tried several different repairs, one worked, but I don't know for sure which one.
Initially, the only way I could see was to use the composite out connection to a TV.
I replaced the VRAM, reseated the AV card, all the RAM, SCSI...
While I'm not expert if the image didn't change when you were moving the display, it makes me think that the Display Data cable might be damaged/loose. An idea is to identify where the cable is and tap that area with the PowerBook on to see if that changes the situation.
Its odd that it...
@Trash80toHP_Mini Yikes, sorry for my delay. I didn't really understand the video card at that point. I thought that a video card with a pass through might allow another RAM module to fit.
Thanks, @LaPorta I might go down that route. The 7200RPM drive that I bought on eBay doesn't like its...
This might help. iFixIt guides have been useful in the past. That looks like a corrupted signal/grounding issue. Its fortunate that its not the card; that's how my 15" G4 went out.
My MDD is similar, at least for the boot chime. That tiny speaker making that much noise? I have a slot load Graphite 700MHz and it is not very loud at all. I suspect some cap or resistor is having an issue. If you increase the volume, does it distort?
$50? Wow, well done! I enjoyed cleaning up my 8600. That case design is wonderful. I have the original software restore disk that came with my G3 desktop model. If its not up on MG or MR, let me know and I can make an image.
Looks like the QuickTime Conferencing software is already up.
SCSI2SD Utility update: Its become totally unusable. I've re-downloaded it (for V6 boards) and it just hangs. While I can see that its ID'd the board and connected, I can't use any drop down menus so I can't load the config settings...
I run 9.2.2 on my Sawtooth and its wonderfully stable. Tiger never worked quite right, even with the correct firmware. But YMMV. Max RAM is cheap and easy and running a SATA PCI card with G4 specific firmware is quite a performance improvement. You can also add in an AirPort card and faster AGP...
@MrFahrenheit I thought so. Its good to get some confirmation, thank you.
@Cory5412 It is shocking to look back and see how expensive something that today offers a fraction of the performance (and performance per measurable dollar figure). In college I remember going for a 500GB drive because...
My 1998 G3 300Mhz is throwing fits. It has: 512MB RAM from Memory Masters (two 256 modules) and a 60GB Apple drive from my PB G4.
I was working with 9.2.2 when the windows vanished and I received the notice that (paraphrasing) "Finder has stopped responding. You should restart." It would then...
@MrFahrenheit Thank you. That would have been disappointing. Following your link, is the active termination built in? Or will it require a jumper on the top left pin array?
@Cory5412 Are you hopeful that future SCSI2SD revisions might reach the 10MB/s limit of FastSCSI?
Oh yes, with a 25MHz processor, even with a DSP, I can’t imagine it would be an enjoyable experience to try to import video on a 660AV. But props for making the effort in ’93. I remember schools...
@Cory5412 That was an interesting read. Thank you. I agree, Apple was very wishful on implementing video at the time. Although I was still amazed at seeing video input from a camcorder to an 8600 as a kid. Although I was maybe more impressed with the TV card (priorities at the time). It took...
Thank you all! This is not only interesting to know useful. This ROM is $77D.40F2. I am working on updating the Sonnet firmware again. Despite downloading the "drv450" file from their site, the updater states its updated it to 4.0 not 4.5. The card is working in the MDD. I had it working in the...
I recalling reading an article around here by that description a few months ago. When I have more time, I can take a look for it.
I downloaded the "Restorer" from OS9Lives two years ago but I don't see it there anymore. I can burn a copy for you. It did wonders for my G4 Gigabit that never...
Thanks, trag. Well I can report that when the MDD formatted SSD registers on the Beige G3 as mounted volume, it reports its true size. The way I see it, this "restorer" is a univerally bootable 9.2.2 disk with the proper software restore program for OS9-fussy machines like some MDDs.
The...
Thankfully, Sonnet keeps their legacy product alive online. There is a firmware update for large drives. I applied that years ago but I'll try it again. Maybe 3rd time is the charm. The SSD is properly recognized on the MDD, so at least its not a problem there.
I'll post when I get that update...
In my efforts to rehab my Beige G3, I installed a Sonnet Tempo Trio card (ATA133) and attached a OWC 500GB SSD.
The lovely MacOS9Lives restorer initialized the drive but reports its only slightly over 127GB. Now I could be completely mistaken but I thought that when using a newer ATA...
