Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I already stated I am going to take on this project and release the mesh once reproduced and tested. I have CAD experience but am not an expert, so it will take time.
Sadly this is just reproducing work that is already done and withheld arbitrarily (and per the description of your historical...
Utterly shameful. Revolting.
Well. I guess I’ll order an OEM bezel and get to work either remixing designing from scratch, 3D scanning or a combination of these techniques.
Unfortunately that inner bezel is for adapting an LCD screen into an iMac G3 sort of custom gut/case mod.
However what I may do is order an OEM new old stock iMac inner bezel and use its measurements to remix that linked object into a viable replacement for the OEM item.
If I do so I’ll print...
That is factually incorrect. LLCs may sell goods with clearly disclaimed warranties in writing. Your making this objectively false assertion is extremely strange.
No parts on the iMac G3 have extreme tolerances. Your statement doesn't make any sense. You don't have to imply or explicitly give a warranty or guarantee. You can release 3D meshes as-is with no warranty implied and allow people to try their own hand at printing them. Since when has 3D mesh...
I'm asking why the STL is not for sale if the goal is computing history preservation and restoration (again, as is stated)
I'm not pressuring anyone to do anything.
responding quickly to things makes me unreasonable? what are you talking about.
I'm passionate about retro macs, I've been collecting, restoring and 'saving them' (as maceffects says he wants to do and to help us do) for my entire adult life, and some of my childhood,
Who are you to say how...
I'm not telling anyone to do anything. I'm asking to purchase the STL so that I can print a bezel and save my imac, as maceffects purports to want to help do.
But he stated he wants to 'save these macs' and the kickstarter speaks of the importance of this machine. if these are genuine sentiments then the STL should be sold to help save these machines (as well as make a profit for maceffects)
Are these statements by maceffects disingenuous?
I never said he owed anyone anything, and the profit on selling STLs vs the net income after expenses for injection molded goods is enormously more for maceffects if he chose to do so.
Nobody is distributing pirated paid STLs to any degree that it harms creators. this is well established as a...
The nice thing is, releasing an STL doesn't require tooling at all. It can be purchased and compensation for the time spent can be directly recouped that way. No tooling needed at all.
Where's the STL for me to buy, as with so many other designers selling STLs on cults3d etc?
I never said open source and I never said I'm entitled to anything. Where are the STLs for me to purchase? I'll happily pay for them.
Are they being released for a price commensurate with the work that was put into them? or are they being hoarded to take advantage of historical items falling...
I never said I'm entitled to anything. I'm saying if Maceffects intent is genuinely restoration and keeping alive computing history (as they state) they should release the 3d files. I never said it has to be for free. I'm saying hoarding the files and only selling injection molded items...
