    Awful Macintosh SE FDHD Revival

I like doing the clean/refurb on floppy drives, I usually wait until I have a a pile of 4 or more, then put on some music or a movie and just cruise through them, testing each after I'm done. Then I have a pile of "good" drives for when I work on a machine- just put a known good one in, and the...

    Outbound (Laptop) Exploration Thread

I bought an assortment set of belts off eBay and experimented until I found one that was "close enough". It was pretty inexpensive.

    Outbound (Laptop) Exploration Thread

The whirring noise from the floppy means the belt inside is broken. Very common on these Citizen drives. I replaced the belt on mine and it worked briefly, but now seems bound up somehow - disks don’t spin.

Yeah - I don't have the DAT either.

    Apple Network Server 500/132

I've had both AIX and BSD running on mine. AIX is more "proper" but BSD is more usable and as you say "comfortable"

    Apple Network Server 500/132

Apple sold it as a part for the ANS. Gave you the standard choices of RAID 0,1,5. You can make more than one RAID group on your drives, like mirror for OS, and RAID 5 for data, etc. It was a fairly generic Mylex card of the time, but it had a special Apple ROM. When mine got trashed, I found...

    Apple Network Server 500/132

@trag - I bet that was my thread that prompted you to remove the battery. Mine was a Maxell, and it took out both the logic board and the RAID card. I was able to locate a replacement logic board (from Europe!) and was also able to find a nearly identical Mylex RAID card and put the socketed...

    LaserWriter II NT

Careful what you wish for, I recently restored a LWII, and this happened... One is a complete disaster with rodent infestation BUT it had the nicest skins. I'll see if I can get one more out of this stack. Why I would need two, I don't know; trade bait for something else, I guess. If you power...

If it's the same, that one is called Ospho or something similar. I've used it on my old pickup. Can be found at NAPA and a lot of larger hardware stores in the paint section.

    Mac Printing with ImageWriter I

I agree that the cable might be the culprit. Another thing to try is using a null-modem adapter - unless the Apple cable specifically has the little printer icon on it at the Mac end, you might need to cross pins 2 and 3 to get TX and RX on the right pins on the printer. Another guy who spent a...

Sorry, I don't have the tape drive in mine or I'd let you know.

Macintosh Portrait Monitor - Bizarre Display Issues

I would be interested in the cap/project list as well - I have a portrait display that is for for the time being, but probably worth the preemptive maintenance before anything goes south.

    LaserWriter 2 paper feed issues

Well, a cleaning of the pickup rollers with a damp cloth and some Q-tips, and inexplicably a different toner cartridge seems to have gotten things sorted out, at least in the short term! After cleaning the rollers, it was still having trouble picking up paper, but when I changed out the toner...

    LaserWriter 2 paper feed issues

I'm reviving a LaserWriter 2. I got a new "power block" (also known as HP Power module RG9-0205 - $25 on eBay) so now the printer powers up successfully. When feeding paper from the tray, the pickup roller gets it about an inch into the printer and then the paper stops. If, however, I feed paper...

iomega Zip 750MB ATAPI Drive (for G4 MDD)

How much surgery is required to fit the bezel? I've got a dead MDD that has one in it - I need to pull it to send to Mr. Fahrenheit. I'm sure I can figure it out, but any hints are always welcome.

Wanted: Front Bezel for MDD G4 Zip Drive

Does it include instructions for how to change out the bezel? I've got a machine with one in it for Mr. Fahrenheit, I just need to pull it out of the (otherwise dead) machine. I can't imagine it's too hard, but hints are always welcome :-)
