Re that mains PCB, although I tripple/quadruple insulted the traces that have mains power (and protected the underside with a polyurethane sheet), I just don't feel safe having DC voltages for the Softpower relay on the AC board. I think I'll ditch the power outlet in my next build (yes, spoiler...
I guess that wasn’t a GFCI outlet? I used to run my SE/30 on an unearthed plug back at my parent’s place in Paris. Kinda glad I never did that IIsi Pivot hack... The apartment did have some kind of protection though, as I remember that one of my Tape Backup 40SCs kept tripping the breaker.
Hi trag,
You are just far more knowledgable than me on those SCSI 53C9x chips and explained it quite well in the other thread so I didn't need to rephrase everything. The point of the quote was actually an indirect question and I should have phrased it differently:
The SCSI2SD v6 supports...
Alternatively, if you can find a 64 pin socket, you should be able to build your own SIMM-Programmer: https://code.google.com/archive/p/mac-rom-simm-programmer/
Awesome, great work! Can't tell if the RAM check is still there or not but the ROM works with Basilisk II at least. I need to test on the real thing once I get it up and running again and also get myself one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/401442364985?hash=item5d77d45e39:g:k8AAAOSw9OFZGMNg...
I found a picture of a prototype 9150 logicboard and it seems to have a 53CF96 NCR chip so Fast-SCSI-2 should be supported from the get go.
From the "Clarification on the Quadra 950's SCSI bus"-Thread:
I can't find any documentation on the Atto, what are the expected transfer speeds on that...
Hi there,
Inspired by aapl2c's mishaps with their Quadra 700, I decided to check out which modifications bbraun made to the Q700/900+PB140/170 ROM. He wrote a great article about his IIsi ROM Hack and I wanted to do the same to the 950 ROM. He already made the necessary changes to the 900 ROM...
What linear said. Here’s a compatible SIMM (the seller will flash it for you).
- Here's a modded ROM file from bbraun (RAM Check disabled), and the webarchive version;
- The official one from Apple.
I guess there could also be something wrong with the board itself. Is the 040 completely...
About studying engineering... I only learned two things (saves you tens of thousands of bucks/euros/francs):
#1 That you have to learn everything yourself. The grades are only useful to get the appropriate internship in order to find the proper job afterwards.
#2 CAD. The one thing that is...
Great pictures and thanks for the plug!
I love how the floppy drive is hanging there in mid air. Really looks like an afterthought but that’s what makes it great!
I personally would leave it as is. Recapping is highly hazardous, there’s about $60 worth of caps and it won’t fix the PSU’s other...
You know what, it ain't that bad.
Luckily you don't need to worry too much about slot alignment with the Apple II. Just get your drill out and some standoffs ready to install that motherboard properly. If it were my machine, I'd invest in a VGA scaler to complete the "PC" look and...
Sure, that’s always a possibility. I took dozens of pics, bought some low ESR Nichicons for the whole thing with a higher temp rating, double checked my work two or three times with the pics and the multimeter, reflowed the boards with the hot air station, cleaned it with IPA extensively and...
I've had to put the project on hold for a few months because life got in the way of things... so the good news is that I didn't lose any content with the recent crash. Unfortunately it means that I don't have any more updates for you guys. In a few months I'll be able to get back to it...
Sorry guys for the lack of content on the site recently (BTW thank you @ArmorAlley and @ktkm for pinging me).
My PSU had a similar issue before it eventually blew up (powering a defective power supply can only damage it further): The 5V rail was completely dead (mine didn't hiss though, are you...
Wow this thread blew up all of a sudden, thanks for your interest!
I have ZERO parts right now, no 9150, no Crescendo, no adapter, no HPV card. I was just wondering if this kind of setup was even possible. I have a big gap in my collection at the moment between the 950 and my G4 Quicksilver...
I didn't touch the connector, I don't know those CRTs well enough to play around with the pinout. I simply removed the yoke altogether on both CRTs, taking note which way the connector was pointing (roughly), and reinstalled the one that goes with the analog board on the good CRT.
Some info on...
