Mac128,
I'm not too anal about the inside of the case, but sealing it up has also given me the opportunity to fill the void with a water-filled bottle to weigh the case down and displace some of the volume I need to fill with the mixture. I have seen photos of chipping SE/30 metallic cases...
JDW, I've read your posts and seen your photos, so I do know how active you were in your retr0briting process. The results clearly speak for it – your SE/30 looks incredible.
The obvious enemy here is the O2 being produced. Without an aqueous solution that allows oxygen to escape OR constant...
Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but I'm just not getting accurate (or stunning) results with the gel. It's difficult to apply and I think it creates unreliable results because it ends up foaming with the gas emissions. I soaked the keyboard keys and mouse and they looked awesome, and the solution...
@JDW
What was the consistency of your gel retr0brite? Mine is really sticky and doesnt' seem to spread evenly. I'm testing on the keyboard now and will try to post results when I'm finished. It doesn't seem as effective as dunking.
I'm trying to think of a way to protect the interior of the...
I've begun testing with my ADB mouse... submerging the smaller bits until I've got the gelling agents :)
Will post results once I'm done with the first batch tonight!
I can't speak for the classic, but there were some screws hidden beneath the analog board assembly. It may be possible to remove them with a super log phillips, but I don't think you'd be able to get around the flyback and capacitors with one. This was my first time, so maybe I'm totally wrong...
it's apart! and i'm still alive!
the CRT is the scariest part. once you're not worried about zapping yourself or snapping the vacuum tube it's pretty easy to take apart.
I bought 12% H2O2 on Amazon – a nice medium between the 3% and 30% solutions I've seen. Once I've gathered the rest of my...
Sorry to continually be paranoid, but I'm currently disassembling my SE/30 and I'm at the point where I need to remove the red flyback suction cup connector. What's the best way to remove it without destroying the CRT? I found a guide online a few days ago but somehow forgot to clip it to...
I'm pretty sure the apple logo is painted, and the retrobrite mixture strips the paint off.
Could you post a photo of the silver apple? I'd be interested in seeing it :b&w:
Has anyone here disassembled a compact mac? Having read everything (including the official documentation on how to disassemble the SE/30 available here for anyone who might find this topic someday) I can find on disassembly, I'm quite concerned about blowing myself away with the CRT.
I plan to...
This is what I'm most concerned about. The inside is gray, but it also has an oily/metallic look to it. Some of it is scraped away (from people opening/closing the case over the years) and it looks somewhat metallic. I don't want to destroy the inside. I'll post a picture... it's definitely...
Hey folks,
A few questions on the retrobrite process before I go headstrong into this:
1: I plan on using the gel mixture, but only because I don't want to chip/ruin the inside of my SE/30 case. Is the gel method more prone to the uneven cleaning? Is the submersion process superior in any way...
I just recently acquired a Macintosh SE/30 in fantastic condition. I'd love to get it hooked up to my ethernet network and hopefully the internet as well.
I know about the Asante MacCon PDS Ethernet card for the IIsi and SE/30, but can't seem to find one. There's one here on ebay, but waaay out...
