This was a great write up and an inspiration for me to upgrade the memory on my video card. I used the same value, but a higher voltage capacitor for my card. Thx.
I just went through with the same issue on my MacSE FDHD recently. I recapped the analog board and replaced the same IC and the line remained. I ended up recapping the power supply I finally got a full regular screen.
A few weeks later I got a checkerboard screen which was a motherboard issue...
Repaired with a replacement motherboard. I purchased a eBay MacSE 800k motherboard. After a test boot, I placed the FDHD ROM and SWIM IC's on to the replacement board and it booted. This means the ROM/SWIM chips are good and that there is a broken trace on the board, possibly between the BBU and...
This was a great read. I have a working MacIIx and a spare motherboard I just can't seem to get to boot (startup/shutdown circuit if fixed, just no boot chime and no video).
It is frustrating not having a proper schematic.
I went through all the solder joints on the back of the board with my soldering iron and got the same result. horizontal lines.
I also tried using some 30 pin 9 chip parity 70ns FMP SIMMs I bought on eBay that are supposed to be for the MacSE.
I got a checkered screen pattern and no boot...
Well that didn't last long. I swapped the motherboards and the FDHD board went back to no chime and lines on the screen.
I am going to reflow some of the solder joints on the board. It must be a connection issue.
Okay, Weird one.
I have another MacSE 800k and decided to try the MacSE FDHD motherboard in the 800k case. It booted without issue. I placed the 800k motherboard in the FDHD case to check if maybe it was the analog board issue. It booted too.
Unsure what caused the issue, but if place the...
I'm aware. I just wanted to see the result on the screen. When I did take this apart originally, the two left pins were touching. Pin one was bent over onto pin two - similar to a jumper being installed. Maybe a previous owner had bent the pin to touch. This isn't a Mac I have previously used...
I had to wait until today when I received a different set of 30 pin RAM chips. These are 30 pin 9 chip Parity 70ns FMP SIMMs stated to work with MacSE and Plus.
I removed and cleaned the two ROM chips and the and used Deoxit on the sockets and the RAM sockets.
I bought four 1mb RAM chips (My...
I have a problematic Mac SE FDHD with lines going across the screen. I recently recapped the analog board and the (Sony) power supply. I also tried a second analog board and a (Apple/Hitachi) power supply and had the same screens. I am getting proper voltages on the power supplies and I have...
I just recently worked on my 512k and had an issue with the eject mechanism being stuck. I cleaned it up and applied new lithium grease, but it still wouldn't move. I watched this short YouTube video over and over just to watch how the disk is ejected. I found my issue and placed a few drops of...
Nice work. I have two Maxell battery bombed Mac IIfx boards. I've been able to repair the startup/shutdown circuit. I also repaired many of the broken traces, but weird thing is when BOTH are powered on, I instantly get the death chime and no video. It's been frustrating. I haven't looked at...
I definitely agree with soldering one side first technique.
Also for some odd reason the traces around C4 are weak. I've had two boards have the pad come up on me at that capacitor. No where else. Luckily it's an easy repair, but just odd.

I recently purchased some M2.5 x 5mm screws on Amazon for mounting BlueSCSI devices to a 3D mount. I tried the screw on the PowerBook screen back case. It fit.
Here's the Amazon link for the screws I purchased...
I think I am going to check the IC RP5 which is near the two PRAM batteries. I did have some corrosion near there from the batteries. RP IC chips lead to the ROM socket according to the bomarc Mac II schematic. (image is of another Mac IIx board of mine).
There appears to be an issue with my ROM. I checked voltages on my good working Mac IIx and the non booting one. I had steady voltages on the working one and many of the ROM pins on the non working unit were jumping. Not too much, just a couple of tenths of volts - like 1.8v to 2.2v. They just...
