Are there any photos of version 3 completed? I am looking to compare parts. The Github page has a dead link for photos.
I ordered from the Mouser cart (thank you Joopmac) except that J11 and J12 headers are backordered and not in stock. I am guessing this header may work found on Amazon...
I was finally successful with installing the card. I used the suggestions for programing the GAL chips. My biggest issue for not being able to get this card working really was my soldering. Those PLCC chips sit directly on top of the pads. I made sure this time to connect the pins to the pads...
Thanks. I have a Mac IIx that is not booting. It's a no boot chime, no video situation. There is activity on the board that my FLIR camera picks up.
I will either purchase one or make one depending on which is the inexpensive option. It's $70 and with shipping it is close to $100, so thinking...
Thanks for the advice. It's been frustrating and I am grateful for the help from everyone. I have learned a lot with this project and I am happy that I was finally able to get both of my boards booting properly.
I was wondering. Is your ROM SIMM Interposer (das blinkenlights) available?
Thanks...
I finally have great news with my Mac IIFX boards. I was finally able to get them to boot. It was definitely my soldering. I learned that dulling down the shiny new pads with a fiberglass pen helps with the solder flowing much better. Soldering the PLCC chips is really something to pay attention...
When I was trying to figure out my Startup/Shutdown issues with my Mac IIFX I took measurements to see if they were getting proper voltages to the NAND chip (UJ18). You definitely have a broken trace leading up to the power on button. You will just have to follow the schematic.
With the...
This is such a great project, but at this time I simply cannot recommend it for novice users like myself. I'm a photojournalist/editor, not a engineer. There just isn't much help for this board. I have tried here and on Facebook groups searching for answers why these boards will not produce even...
These two boards are still not booting. No chime, no video. I have added solder to each PLCC IC (More than what I usually place) just to ensure I have a connection to the board. The pins on all the remaining chips like the Memory Controller, SCSI, NuBus etc... all have continuity from pin to...
I'm just guessing it's just the small PLCC chips not properly soldered in place. They look it, but it's tough to tell with the pads underneath the IC. Yesterday I touched up UN9 and when I pressed the power button I at least got a louder static sound from the speaker. So some progress.
I checked the ROM socket to the CPU socket and all the data and address lines had continuity. So this means it is not what I suspected as a ROM issue. I will again go through the IC's and check my soldering (again). I plan on removing one IC at a time and checking, hoping for a death chime at...
Thanks for responding.
I really don't think it's an issue with the Sound IC's, but with the ROM. When I say doesn't respond to reset, I have no sound and no response that it's rebooting. To me this is as if there is no ROM or incorrect ROM SIMM installed. I've had this happen when I have...
I don't believe the issue is my soldering. I have checked and rechecked all the IC's especially the PLCC chips. All have continuity from pad to top of the pins.
I can only guess that during manufacturing something wasn't connected within the layers. Odds of two boards exhibiting the same issue...
I have been trying to resurrect my battery bombed Mac IIfx boards (I have two) by transferring everything to Bolle's recreation boards. I love these, but I am having a no boot, no chime on the board(s).
Reset doesn't respond. I've checked and rechecked my soldering. I've got continuity from...
I know it's an issue with the GALs or programming them. I thought maybe a socket would work since I have seen the new board that is being prepared is using sockets. I just wasn't sure I had soldered the pins correctly (even though I had checked the pins and the pads for continuity). Still...
Thankfully I have a extra Mac IIfx board. I am going to power it up and check voltages and match what I have on the recreation board. I am not getting any viable voltages on UN10, the 120 pin Memory Controller IC. Or maybe something isn't starting it up and that is why it doesn't have any 5v...
I added the jumper to be able to boot from the power button.
I'm still getting a no boot chime, no video. It kind of reminds me of booting without a ROM SIMM installed or no RAM.
I checked the back of the board and found one pin not soldered on the ROM SIMM and a whole row of pins not...
Bolle, thank you. That is really helpful.
I did not add any of the ATX items because I am using the stock power supply. But that would explain a lot.
I am getting no response when I press the reset buttons. Possible it is the Sony Sound IC's? The Audio out plug?
I did find a few pins that...
I built my first recreation board and am having trouble booting at the moment. I didn't expect to get a first successful boot on my first try.
I am getting no boot chime and no video. I am also not able to boot from the power button, but I can jump it. It does shutdown with the power button...
Not yet. I did buy some PLCC 20 pin sockets for the GAL chips. I also bought some Motorola 68030 25Mhz chips. The last time I tried, I was getting a checkered screen. I am hoping the new sockets to insure proper solder joints and the new CPU will help.
I also read a bit more on programming the...
