Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Instead of creating a new thread I'll just post this here:
The 9600 I bought came with the original 7.6.1 restore CD but every time I install it there is no Applications folder or Utilities folder. I see the Utilities folder on the CD so I just copy that over to the drive after installing, but...
I guess what I could do is buy a completely new HD and have the installs on different disks rather than different partitions on the same disk. That would probably help.
If you ever remember any details at all jsarchibald, please update us. I'm wondering if you used just stock drivers or if you found some hacked ones somewhere. Any combo of stock ones I've tried hasn't worked.
If I have two OS installs on the same hard drive, when I put something on the desktop in one OS and boot into another, it appears there as well. I'd like to keep them separate if possible.
What I mean by contextual menus is control-clicking on an icon and getting more options. Doesn't seem to...
I've always noticed that you've got the same desktop icons when going to and fro a different OS or at least a different install of the same OS. How can I separate these so I only see the desktop items I moved onto that particular OS's desktop?
Bonus question: is there any way to get contextual...
It looks like I'm going to be dry for a 300/350 machine. I kind of want to try unsoldering the jumper on the motherboard but I'm hesitant. When I disable the onboard cache using the NewerTech MaxPowr control panel there are freezing issues. When I turn it on, it works fine. A possible scenario...
The USB Adapter Card Support thing is something I stumbled upon elsewhere but it won't install on 7.6.1. I'm using a 9600 which is the last system to boot 7.6.1 I believe.
I'm determined to get this working...
Admittedly, from what I test, I didn't test with a USB thumb drive. I think you've got to have those USB Mass Storage drivers in order to get thumb drives to show up but correct me if I'm wrong. I only tried with a USB mouse, so maybe I should try again but...
Do you remember where the extensions came from? Was it mostly the stock 1.4.1 drivers from the USB pack that we all know, or was it some hacked drivers from somewhere else?
I'm running 25' of VGA cables and I find that most brands aren't cutting it. I tried 4 different 25' VGA cables just now and all of them give me weird ghosting and artifacts on my screen. The only 25' cable that I have that works decently is an ELTOP Electronics brand cable. I have no idea where...
The power key functions normally when I'm booted up. I remember when I first got the machine that it was great to be able to start it up by hitting the power key on the keyboard. Doesn't work now for some reason unless I'm already booted and I want to shut down.
I think I'm gonna bug gocarlo about buying his Kansas 9600. If that doesn't work out I'm still curious about sorting the issue out, but let's see if I can convince him to sell me his first :)
