I actually got into a fight on Wikipedia with one of the old Apple II guys there who insisted that all the Apple IIes were nothing more than minor revisions, so much so, that he fought to keep them from even being split into separate sub-headings. Same for the Apple IIcs, which had a similar...
I personally hate that QT decal. It reminds me of PC marketing ... I have friends that never remove all those stupid decals plastered all over their laptops. However, it is a part of Apple history, so I am reluctant to remove them from any of my CCs. The irony is that QT doesn't work...
As always an amazing demonstration of the brilliance of Apple's foresight with the Macintosh. Can't thank you enough for keeping the 512K relevant in the 21st century ...
I have noticed a large number of listings that prominently yet arbitrarily throw in Steve Jobs name in the listing title, e.g. "Vintage Macintosh Steve Jobs!". Especially annoying are the ones that trumpet "signed by Steve Jobs" referring to the inside case molding.
While I've not done any...
Your last picture is the ceramic package. Typically this is on early versions of the logic board. But since Apple sourced components from a variety of vendors, anything is possible. This appears to be a later board due to the large Apple logos on the RAM chips.
The blue resistor is the piggy...
I know this has come up before, but I wanted to just go over it again prior to my impending move.
Basically, I am moving into a smaller transitional space which will not accommodate my "Mac room". This could last up to a year or longer depending on where I move next. My solution was to rent a...
While this is a non-upgraded 1984 128K design, it is definitely not a "first edition". A couple of key indicators are the ROMs are Rev. B - granted they could have been upgraded after the fact, however, the RAM chips also have the large Apple logo which were not included in the 128K boards until...
Yup 100%. in fact, in the late 80s the Plus analogue board was the only one available for replacement in a 512K or 128K. Just make sure you adjust the voltages after you swap them.
The power supply should have burned out and shut down before the voltage could be passed on to more sensitive circuits. The logic board should be unaffected, as it gets it's power well after the mains. As DogCow suggests you should be able to start replacing the burned-out PSU components...
Will OSX boot into 800x600? I seem to recall there was a mod to force the CC display to this resolution ... Which for the purposes of this iTunes implementation should be perfectly functional.
Mini vMac does not talk to the outside ports of the host PC, other than mouse and keyboard inputs. All file transfer must be done with supplied scripts or disk images. This is by design. Believe me I have appealed to the current developer to add this kind of interface, but it's not a priority.
I don't think it's fair to say the Wallstreet is more fragile than a desktop, in this context. The G3 Series is one of the most robust Macs ever built. It's Achilles heel, are the display lid hinges. However, considering how this Mac is to be used, the lid never needs to be opened. Just connect...
Excellent points napbar. Did not think of the LocalTalk issue, as I use Ethernet.
The Wallstreet is an amazing PowerBook as well. Though if going this route the PDQ is the way to go as it fixed some heat and power issues. Also, there were G4 upgrade cards for the Wallstreet as well.
One point...
The PowerBook G3 is one of the most versatile and amazing Macs you can have in your collection. I can't say enough positive things about my Pismo, which I upgraded with a G4 daughter card. Still find it extremely useful to this day, especially for bridging the vintage-to-modern gap. Apple truly...
Jonathan, search for napbar and 512K and you will find numerous postings about his procedures for connecting to the various devices.
My procedure for connecting to a Mac is detailed here: http://mac128.com/
Haha, did not say it couldn't be the flyback ... Just several other things to check first. I don't have my reference books handy, or I would go into more detail. Of the dozen or so M0001 compacts I have had, none have ever had the flyback fail, but a few have exhibited the symptoms you describe...
Not sure you will be able to just connect the Plus to a PC. Check out this link for some cross platform networking tips.

Now, I have been able to use Mac OS X Terminal to send files over a serial connection, so theoretically this may work just as...
Have you adjusted the voltages? The floppy drive problem is directly related to out-of-whack voltages in compacts I have seen with this issue. Otherwise, without consulting my Pina Books, I would say this unit is in need of a complete recap. Considering it's age, that is most definitely a...
The Mac Plus International PSU is convertible 240/120. No need for an external voltage converter. I have never done it, but I believe it is a simple matter of changing a jumper or two.
I'm not sure what your particular problem is with respect to using it on other Macs. The current OS X drivers do not do the update, and I mainly use the ZIP drive between my vintage compacts and OS X Macs. If you are using it on other vintage Macs, just make sure that the ZIP Driver installed on...
