Hi, actually they say they've done this successfully for a number of people who brought in old MacBooks (it's a non-profit organization with a lot of employees using older and used hardware, who don't need the latest and greatest technology to do their jobs, in a profession where little economic...
I'm assuming this is a Hack. I upgraded from my original Core Duo Mac to a Core 2 Duo Mac so I could upgrade to Lion an upgrade to ICloud.
I gave the Mac to a girlfriend for casual use, but she's using it in a closed network, and they won't let her on the Internet because Snow Leopard is no...
I feel like I tried this once upon a time, but I do not recall the outcome.
The HD20 Manual is quite clear on this -- the HD20 Startup disk must be in the internal drive. It goes on to outline procedures for using an external drive without powering up the HD20 -- you must startup from the HD20...
You said you confirmed the drive works in another Mac. The fact the stepper motor doesn't work, may hint at one problem. Check the ROMS in the other Mac you tested it in. If they are Mac Plus ROMs, or 342-022x-B then your 400K drive may require the REV B ROMs or better. Apple revised the...
Pretty impressive. It even works on the iPad. Need to try it on an iPad Air as the emulation is pretty slow on the v3 model … but still.
Just out of curiosity, why System 1.1/g? Why not the original "1.0" software (Sys .97/Finder 1.0) released on January 24?
Found this extremely fascinating. Unlike the original Shareholder's meeting videos we've all seen, what follows is a complete demonstration of the Mac much like what we see at Apple product announcements today. I especially love the discussion about the video out capabilities and the custom...
How has this been verified? Is there a dissected HD-20 ROM dump somewhere? Or is it referenced in some Apple literature?
I ask because the original HD-20 startup disk (System 2.1/Finder 5.0) does contain the HD-20 icon in the System Folder SICN file. However, it's not in System 3.0 which has no...
Anybody used the Macintosh Floppy EMU?

This looks like the best option for solid state Mac floppy disk replacement I've seen in years, especially to transfer disk images with a modern Mac without an intermediate step.
You need to run MacTerminal from inside a Mac emulator, along with some other adjustments. Start with http://mac128.com and you will find a couple of tutorials for using MacTerminal within OS X, which should apply to a PC environment as well ...
I don't put a lot of stock in the discontinuation dates of many Macintosh products. While a product may have officially been discontinued from general retail sales, that doesn't mean they didn't still continue to manufacture them for special markets, such as foreign and educational markets. I...
Danda, that's not too strange. Apple was generally selling Macs in Europe at a lower price point and cheaper configuration in those days, so the common model was still probably 1MB. They had different labels for a countries regulatory purposes obviously, so it's possible there were both 1MB...
As I have always said and continue to maintain, vintage Macs are as good today as they were when they were born, at least with respect to the tasks they were designed to perform. The key for me has been getting that work out of that vintage Mac in a useful format. My area of specialization is...
Pretty funny ad. I love the clip of analogue manager George Crow who chooses to clear his voice just after he says "it had to be very reliable because we didn't want our customers to ever have to worry about it failing" LOL either he was a horrible manager, or this is one of the most ironic...
Nice colorful iMac 128K (easy folks, the damage has been done, just enjoy it). I'm guessing this thing at one point had a painted blue mouse. Maybe even a green external drive. Funny thing is, I saw the yellow keyboard and wondered at first why they didn't paint it too!
Aside from the curiosity...
There are several solutions to this on similar systems. This is one of them ... http://www.dclausen.net/projects/tfam/ There's also another one that used a paint nozzle cleaner ... but I don't have that link handy ...
Yes exactly, but obviously, you can't save changes, since you can't write to the ROM. I suppose you could copy it to a disk. Great feature in the Mac OS -- a foolproof way to boot the system if anything becomes corrupted, and always have a clean copy of OS 6.0.3.
