9.1 CD not able to initialize hard drive

Is this the guide you are referring to? http://www.euronet.nl/users/ernstoud/drvsetup.html I will try this tonight. Since the OS 9.1 CD is read-only, I'll have to copy drive setup from the CD, patch it on another mac, and then put it on a floppy disk...

    iMac G3 Airport

That's probably it - my work has a newer router. I'm sure my 10-year old linksys at home will do just fine :D

    Craigslist $40 1.8ghz Dual Power Mac G5

That's a great deal! :) If it were me I would set it up as some sort of server, maybe to host files or a small website. That's a great way to make old macs useful if you're not going to be using them as your main machine. :)

    iMac G3 Airport

I found an abandoned iMac G3 at work (indigo, in beautiful condition) and I booted it up to Tiger. It says there is an airport card installed, and it has the airport logo in the menubar, but it couldn't find any wireless networks even though there were several networks within 30 feet of the...

    PowerBook 180 networking

Awesome! Now - I know I said I didn't need to connect it to the internet, and I don't, but just out of curiosity, is there a way to do that (using a DSL connection, not dial-up). :)

9.1 CD not able to initialize hard drive

Yes, the disk is a retail version of 9.1. I am going to try again with a Mac OS 8 CD, and if that doesn't work I'll probably just buy a new hard drive. The seller who sold me the hard drive gave me a full refund anyways so if I spend $20 on a new one I won't be losing any money!

9.1 CD not able to initialize hard drive

I have a Power Mac 8500 that has had a dead hard drive for the last year. I finally got around to ordering a replacement hard drive on eBay (a whopping 700 MB 50-pin internal SCSI), and I installed it in my 8500. The first problem arose when I tried to boot from a System 7.5.3 disk - the CD...

    Identify this iMac, if possible

It will get worse, I use to have a 17" Studio Display (CRT) and the snap/pop would happen every few days, but after a few weeks of that it started to do it as often as every 5 minutes, rendering it unusable. :-/ The problem is the flyback transformer as an earlier poster said. You can repair...

iBook G3 800 MHz hack gives 1920x1080 VGA output

Wow, nice work! Could you post a tutorial for how you enabled higher resolutions for your 8500? I have one as well and OS 9 would look awesome on a Cinema Display. :) Also, what kinds of changes would I need to make for it to work with 1680 x 1050? That's a lot of questions, I know. :-x

    PowerBook 180 networking

I have a PB 180 that I want to connect to another computer. It does not need to connect to the internet; I simply need a way to quickly transfer files from one machine to the other. What kind of cable/software do I need?

Fixing a dead Power Mac G5

A few months ago, I found a dual processor Power Mac G5 and took it home. Unfortunately, the liquid cooling unit leaked and destroyed the motherboard and processors. It's also missing a couple of fans and a hard drive. I want to fix it, but I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on it...

Apple Studio Display 17 CRT Problems

I have no experience in hardware repair, especially when it comes to monitors. The same place where I found the 17" monitor also has the 21" version. If I can lift it (77 lbs.), it would be a great replacement. (I initially rejected it because of its size, but I think I can fit it on my desk.)

Power Macintosh 8500 - Almost working!

I have no idea. It originally shipped with *shudders* 16 MB of RAM, but I don't know if the previous owner upgraded it or not. I'd really prefer to run System 7 or OS 8 if possible. I like my computers to be speedy, even if it means using a slightly outdated operating system. I just realized I...

Power Macintosh 8500 - Almost working!

Hi, I posted awhile ago about a non working Power Mac 8500. The problem was that it had no video out. Fortunately, it was just the adapter that didn't work, and I found a new Mac video to VGA adapter. The video out works fine now. Unfortunately, the hard disk has no OS installed, and when I...

    Office: Mac Question

The Mac versions of Office are Office 98, Office 2001, Office 2004, and Office 2008. Office 98 works just fine for me. I also have Office 2004, on my MacBook. I wouldn't recommend Office 2008, simply because of its size and slow load time. You should also see if you can find a copy of Word 5.1...

Apple Studio Display 17 CRT Problems

Hi, I've had my 17" Studio Display for about 3 months now (I got it for free from a University that was clearing out their older hardware). From the beginning, it would occasionally click softly, expand (the width and height of the picture), then contract to it's normal size. Two days ago, I...
