The box does flex a bit when I pick it up, but I've always attributed that to the uneven weight distribution of the heavy ass CRT in there. I'll try and find a box big enough to slide it into.
Going to be selling my snow imac 500mhz DV SE pretty soon here. The thing is complete in it's original shipping box, all original styrofoam and static bag, etc.
Is it safe to ship it like this with just a shipping label slapped on the box?
I manged to replace the shit PCI video card in the G5 with a 9600 Pro. Even with the upgraded video, the G5 still feels sluggish just moving around in 10.5. Honestly, I think I'd rather keep the MDD for it's somewhat historic place in the lineup.
I have several older versions of Adobe products...
Hmm...possible. Not sure I want to spend any money on this thing though. It's a really pretty screen for the time. Kind of considering replacing the case altogether and making a custom one.
Decided to try out the monitors I got in a pickup last week. This m7649 seems to work perfectly well. Cosmetically, it's got some scratches, but I can barely see them when the thing is on.
The only problem I have, is that the leg slides all the way to the furthest extension when the monitor is...
Well, I've got both up and running. The G5 is running Leopard, the MDD has Tiger. G5 has the max 4GB RAM, but I'm stuck using a crappy old PCI video card from a B&W because I don't have a single card that'll work in the AGP slot on the G5. The MDD is pretty maxxed out. Only 1.7gb ram, but...
So...for Tiger or Leopard (Haven't decided which way I want to go), which machine would provide the better experience in your opinions?
The MDD is the final 2003 1.25ghz single CPU. The G5 is the cut-down single 1.8ghz "iMac in a tower case".
Well...I feel stupid. While going through the "1 stick at a time through each slot" thing, I noticed that two of the sticks were of the wrong speed. Swapped those out with the correct PC2700 type and BAM. Working machine. I'm only at 1.75GB but that'll be more than enough.
Ok...let's start this.
So, the MDD I picked up (2003 1.25ghz final model) has 4x 512MB sticks. The machine only sees 1 stick at a time. I've tried swapping sticks and slots, resetting cuda, nvram, pram (I think the battery is dead though, I MIGHT have another but not sure). The thing is, System...
Been trolling Craigslist. Found an ad from a couple months ago for several Gx series PowerMacs. Took a chance and contacted the lister. He still had them, took an offer and today I picked up:

2x B&W...
I very often use older versions of Office files. With very few exceptions, I do alright by just doing simple composing in the old versions and final formatting/styling on my modern machines.
Oh, yeah, RAM is dirt cheap right now. Just trying to maximize what I have before hitting up ebay or whatnot.
Found a 128 stick of PC133 and dropped that in. Swapped the CD for a CDRW/DVD Combo drive, added a second hard drive, and installed Tiger on the second drive.
For only having 256MB...
I've googled, but I keep seeing conflicting answers. Some say they can boot a DA with PC100, but the system just won't recognize it. Others say only PC133 will even let it boot.
I've got way more PC100 than PC133, so I was wondering if anyone can give a definitive answer on whether or not a DA...
Yeah, was thinking of a single cpu machine. If I do find a fast dual, I'll dual boot with Tiger. I should have enough RAM in my piles to max out a later machine.
I've been looking for a MDD to get the ultimate OS9 machine. I have a trade post up in the trading section too. I'll run across one eventually. For now, this machine is pretty decent.
Picked up a stock 466mhz DA at a thrift for $20 a few months back.
Everything works, but it doesn't recognize the zip drive. Not a big deal, but it'll be nice to replace it and have it functional.
My question is...is it worth it to try and upgrade this thing, or just find a newer g4?
I don't...
