Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Hi everyone,
I have a recently restored LC II to play around with. I've been poking around the schematics and have learned that the PDS slot is basically a giant breadboard that gives you access to all the processor pins. This got me thinking about what kind of interesting hacks could be done...
I’m glad it’s working better than ChromiVNC! Are you using MacTCP or open transport? If you get a chance to write down the exact message, or snap a photograph of it, that would help!
@lisa2: Hey Rick, I made a new release of MiniVNC. I think you are the only person who will benefit from this release, as the one thing I fixed was the dead area on the Lisa's screen. Let me know if the problem is corrected for you, thanks...
@max1zzz: How much you are selling or planning to sell your PCBs for? Do you use JLPCB assembly to prepopulate any of the smaller passive components or must these be carried over manually? What type of tools do you need to transfer the components? I have a hot air rework station, but not much...
I probably ought to start a new thread for my LC III board from hell, but here is my survey of all the potentially corroded traces on my board. The more I dig into this, the more daunting it looks! The number of broken traces now numbers about fifty 😯
All the traces which pass through the...
Thank you, guys! I've just done the first pass of figuring out where all the likely broken traces go and fixing this guy is gonna be a doozy -- some 35 to 40 different bypass wires will be needed, at least! This board is gonna have to look like one of those wire-wrapped computers from the 60s...
@max1zzz: Thanks! This will help prove or disprove some of my theories!
So I've been looking at the schematics from Bomarc and found out that the PDS slot is like a giant breadboard with all the important signals. How convenient! I've been using my multimeter and have just finished buzzing out...
@timtiger Glad you liked it! I wish I could figure out the causes of those crashes, but they've been present since I began developing MiniVNC and even a simple test program has the same problem, so I don't know what the issue is. Are you using the RaSCSI?
@max1zzz: This is amazing work! I'd like to ask you a favor, would you be able to share a JPG or PDF of the board layers for this lower section of the LC III motherboard near the internal HD connector? This unfortunate board underwent a Chernobyl-type situation with the battery that obliterated...
In this latest video, I chat with @lisa2 about the Apple Lisa while I remotely connect and control his Lisa computers via the Internet using MiniVNC! Check it out!
I am very impressed! Thanks for sharing that! It looks like it didn't even crop the screen, which totally surprises me. I did not expect LocalTalk to have the performance to make this work, or a Lisa with a slower processor than the Plus to be able to keep up. What kind of refresh rate do you...
Try the latest release on your Mac Portable. At least that should work. I made major strides in making it run-time configurable so it should work with most systems. I am a bit skeptical about those odd Lisa resolutions. I made the assumption that all systems would be running a resolution that is...
Anyhow, speaking of shameless self-promotion, I've made a new release, now with keyboard support and other improvements!
https://github.com/marciot/mac-minivnc/releases/tag/v0.8-beta-march-10
Also added a pre-built RaSCSI disk image for anyone that wishes to support me on GitHub.
I cheated a bit and tooted my own horn in the tips line...
Hey, with about five people in the world who might actually use this, I need all the self-promotion I can get!
So I guess this?

@Bolle: I have a severely damaged LC III motherboard I might eventually scrap. It has a 68030 soldered in. What form factor of chip does your motherboard use? If there is an interest in salvaging the processor from old LC IIIs, I might attempt to remove it.
Also, just curious, is it even...
