    haplain's never-ending quest

I'm sure it means that the logic board was assembled by Foxconn in Taiwan, not the entire test rig.

    haplain's never-ending quest

I figured this just accentuates the differences between EVT and DVT prototypes.

    IIsi (onboard) ram upgrade.

That IIsi board did indeed drive me mad. I never could figure out a reason for the issue beyond attributing it to half-rotten traces or something.

    haplain's never-ending quest

I received a copy of "Iconic" for Christmas and they have some photos of a first-gen MacBook (Pro? I think it's just a MacBook) Prototype that is quite similar to Hap's acrylic rig here. Not the same but the engineering prototype rigging is of the same type.

I've said it before but - man Hap, you find the coolest toys.

    A nice SE/30, /w Options :-)

The MacCon I had did not have the notched socket either. As I recall, they marked one side of the ribbon end with white paint, though.

    SE/30 motherboard problem ??

I dunno, the pads look pretty well gone for the UJ ICs. A number of vias through there also. I'd say it's iffy at best. Dead at worst. Either way, it's a number of hours with a meter repairing traces. You'll probably want to pull the ROM slot for cleaning/testing too.

Aw, man - Penelope was awesome. I'll have to get a mirror going next week. Thank you for all your work in keeping it going over the years!

Macintosh II - Do you remember what it was like?

My IIx has the standard surface mount aluminum electrolytics.

    Cosmo's latest . . .

Ah, the first Larry Pina book. The disk should have the test patterns for adjusting the CRT properly. It's an amazing resource along with his second book, the Dead Mac Scrolls.

Decked out Apple IIgs vs. Decked out PLUS

I saw this one last weekend:

Decked out Apple IIgs vs. Decked out PLUS

The difference is iOS tends to silently crash. The app closes or freezes. Android will happily tell you that it's puked on itself. I don't quite know which I prefer.

Decked out Apple IIgs vs. Decked out PLUS

So long as you have a tab that you CAN load a vanilla Android onto, that's good advice.

Decked out Apple IIgs vs. Decked out PLUS

I even see Kindle Fire HDs and Samsung Galaxys on display with various "Process X is not responding. Would you like to Close it?" errors on them. Granted, they are 10x better than the POS, cheap, generic Chinese tabs but crashiness isn't limited to the bottom rung.

Decked out Apple IIgs vs. Decked out PLUS

Funny you say that as I mostly remember the Timex Sinclair from a display on an end cap at the local drug store. It was next to the case full of Atari 2600 cartridges.

Just want to say "thanks" to Charles. A little retrobrite turned this Q700 into a looker:

17" MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa) - $15 Total

That repair program effectively ended at the start of 2013 as they were only covering them for a period of four years after initial purchase. Apple was fairly strict on only covering what they had to because Nvidia was footing the bill. Nvidia required that all Macbook Pros with covered repairs...
