I was putting on a mini-din 8 connector; with pads for both a right-angle and vertical connector depending on which one the user wanted to install. I was going to have that driven by an ISL83490IBZ; but it seems to be out of stock now... so I'll have to put pads down for an alternate chip.
I'm a lot more familiar with the Atmel side of the house (AVR, SAMD) so pardon the rudimentary level of the question...
What would it take to move to a PIC with a little more IO pins? I'd like to be able to tell the chip that the line isn't in LocalTalk mode; and it should shut down it's driver...
On the first one, the 74ls04 (or any other inverter - I’m using a single-gate package inverter) should be powered off of the trickle (standby) 5v line, not the main 5v lines. Also, as it’s a totem-pole output device, the second 1k resistor is unnecessary.
And on both circuits, you can cut the...
FWIW, if I am doing the math right; the ESP8266 should be able to handle a 1Mhz baud rate exactly... I might drop one of these in to my MacESP8266+ project to handle LocalTalk frames. 🤔
You are sufficiently close that you might as well go all the way... who knows when an opportunity like this will come up again. Also, when you put it back together again you will know that you've got all-new solder joints.
I don't see any thing there that would be difficult to deal with (like...
That crackle indicates to me that the flyback has had it's insulation on the windings break down, and is arcing internally. This will do several things. First you won't be getting proper high-voltage to the anode of the CRT; so even if everything else was working properly you wouldn't get an...
That's not a battery bomb... that's a battery nuke! 🤯
At that point, I think I would have given in and tried to get ahold of one of the new PCBs that are being made... but, hey - if you can get it going again, great!
I already have a board layout that takes an ATX power supply as input, and generates the required -5v rail, and connects to the SE & SE/30 power connector. It also has a standard 0.100 header with the video signals on it, so you can connect it to a display solution (like that RGBtoHDMI).
It's...
Resistance between ground and power rails (5v, 12v, etc) is normal: your multimeter is providing a tiny bit of power to the probe tips at a known voltage, measuring how much current flows, and from that figuring out how much resistance must be present using Ohm’s law. That tiny bit of power will...
