Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
It's probably phpBB's default theme, it's not particulatly vintage friendly. Try switching to "subsilver2" in your profile settings and see if that helps.
As Cory said, there is currently a Javascript thingie that resizes the display width of inline images to 400px as long as your browser supports it and you're using the default theme. However, your browser still needs to load the whole image before this can work, so if you go posting a whole pile...
Yes, we don't currently have inline attachments enabled, so you'll have to use an external hosting service. Any of the image hosting sites (ImageShack, Photobucket TinyPic, etc) will work if you don't have web space of your own.
SMT resistors and capacitors look virtually identical and often don't have markings on them (capacitors especially). If it has a Cxxx code on the silkscreen then it's fairly safe to assume that it's a capacitor...
Hmm, I added the code blocks but I didn't touch anything else. Did you add the link to AutoMOD originally or did you edit your post to add it? Maybe we both were editing the post at the same time... sorry if that's the case.
I'll take a look in to AutoMOD.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that installing phpBB's mods requires modification the base code, upgrading the forum becomes a complete hassle. Even with the relatively few updates we had installed back on the phpBB2 forum, each phpBB update took hours to install. I'm a bit reluctant to start...

Don't worry about it. I think we've got the spambot registration problem under control now anyway. I've added a couple of anti-spambot questions to the registration page, the answers to which are required to be correct before the registration is completed. Most spambot registrations post data to...
If you don't like the way this place is run, feel free to start an online petition. I've heard they're generally pretty successful in instigating change...

You can now edit your posts for a maximum of 60 minutes after the post has been made. After that point, if you want a post edited (to update links, etc) you will have to PM a moderator. This is mainly to stop retrospective editing of prior posts in a thread.
That's just the standard phpBB...
Nope... I haven't purged it. The account would have been lost when the forum's hosting account went down in 2007 and we had to start again since we didn't have an up to date backup. I don't think you've been active since then, so the account would never have been recreated.
While it is true that we had an e-mail concerning the thread in question, aside from bringing it to our attention it had little to do with the final decision to implement new rules. There was certainly no "outside pressure" forcing us to implement them. We simply didn't like the attitude that...
