Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
So, digging through my add-in card collection, it turns out I *DO* have a Sonnet Ultra/66 card! Unfortunately, I have no >120 GB parallel ATA drives to test it with!
(My hard drive drawer goes from 540 MB up to 120 GB parallel ATA, then one 40 GB Serial ATA, then the next SATA up is 500 GB.)
And recovered it. Somehow, the hard drive going bad made it unbootable even from floppy. Swapped in a new(er) hard drive, and we're good to go.
Floppy drive works fine with a new hard drive in it. Odd.
While it's not a huge difference, the Radeon you have labeled as "7000(?)" is actually the original Radeon, which didn't have any numbers. (That one is specifically the "Radeon DDR PCI"
And, VERY Interestingly, yours also has the "ATI Rage Theater" chip, which means it should be capable of...
As documented in my "Liberation" thread about my SE/30 with Radius Pivot Display, the haul also included a DaynaFile dual-5.25" drive external SCSI unit.
I had never even heard of these units until getting this one - it seems like a great accessory, a SCSI peripheral (so no funky controller...
The other option is that it was made before there were 120+ GB hard drives, so they simply didn't even think to list it.
The ATA/ATAPI-5 standard (the official standard that added the 66 MB/s speed,) was finalized in February 2000. While 120 GB drives were released in early 2001, from what I...
Where is the "favorite" button when you need one?!?
I would pay $100 easy for accelerators like this for the SE/30, LC PDS, and PowerBook 5x0 series!
Hell, NTC just came out with the "CHIP" single-board computer that has 4 GB storage, 512 MB RAM, WiFi, and Bluetooth - for $9. If they can make...
The official definition of ATA/ATAPI-5 (the standard that defines the Ultra DMA/66 transfer speed,) has the 128 GB limit.
BUT, late in the time of UltraATA/66, some controllers used some of the ATA/ATAPI-6 standard, allowing them to access larger drives. Unfortunately, if the vendor doesn't...
This one is grayscale - 4 shades with the SE/30 video card. I know they made a color version, too. (There's even a color SE/30 video card for it!)
It takes as long to rearrange as choosing "Clean Up" would if you had all the icons scattered.
Here's a quick video: https://vid.me/4oo9
The...
Well, thanks to my latest conquest, I now have ANOTHER SE/30... When I'm on my lunch break, I'll have to set up all my working compacts in a row and get a photo. And I should probably get a photo of all my SE/30 chassis together, too. (2 working, 2 dead.)
The really oddball peripheral that came with it is a DaynaFile, external SCSI dual-5.25" drive! (One 360K, one 1.2M.) Sadly, the power cord/brick is missing. :(
Here are some pics of the internals. It was a little dusty, but in good shape otherwise.
The video card in place.
Video card removed.
SE/30 logic board. It had the stock eight 256KB SIMMs installed. Promptly swapped in eight 1MBers. It's running System 6, so no real reason to put more...
Combination of remembering this site exists and having spare time to dig through my closet.
I've been getting the occasional classic Mac every so often, just wasn't documenting it here, because I forgot about here.
(My bookmark was to the old domain, I remember clicking it a couple times and...
What an oddball conquest!
The SE/30 is in pristine condition. The Pivot Display is in good but not perfect condition. A couple of bonus accessories that are funny, too.
As shown here, the SE/30 is still in its 100% original condition! Stock 2 MB RAM, still on System 6.0.5! Works great...
After the debacle with my IIsis (update: I got one to work!) I have moved on to my next reachable machine: Power Macintosh 7100/66. Yes, the slow 'original launch' model. And just like I remembered, it has System 7.1.2 (the earliest OS capable of running on any PowerPC,) on it. Complete with...
And in cleaning out my closet, my 6100/DOS Compatible (yes, labeled that way,) just became visible. It'll probably be the one I take a shot at getting and playing with tomorrow.
The fun part is that I have the matching AudioVision display. So in order to use it with the DOS card, you have to...
I like the ancient-browser-friendly layout of your site! If your web server software properly support resource forks, then .bin or .hqx would be best. One big thing: If you're going to put Stuffit Expander on there, make sure it's a .sea.bin! I remember the nastiest of catch-22s, that the...
