Huh, none of mine (5300, 1400, 3400,) do that. I would say maybe a bad PRAM battery, but some of mine don't keep the time when off, so I would guess they have bad PRAM batteries, too...
Alright, booted up the two SEs. Both are branded as "one megabyte, dual 800k floppy" systems.
One is indeed simply a dual 800k floppy system, but with 2.5 MB RAM. Both internal floppies are in need of cleaning, both mechanisms stick, and neither will boot. An external floppy works just fine...
Booted up the Performa, works great! 24 MB Mac memory, 8 MB memory on the PC side. The PC disk image it was set to boot to was corrupt, but there was the original image still on there, with a few hundred empty "backup" folders at the root level of it.
Haven't fully tested the two SEs yet, but...
Oh, definitely wouldn't throw it out. I'll probably offer it up here soon. And the other compacts - depending on if either of the SEs are better than mine.
Also, is anyone interested in paying shipping on a LaserWriter II?
Yeah, didn't think so. :( I have enough Apple printers already...
<sigh>
Just shipped off two compact Macs to two fine gents on here this morning.
So this evening, I picked up three more from Craigslist... The haul is still in the trunk of my car because I got home barely
in time to start work. But here are the pictures and list from the Craigslist...
I'd be tempted to make some decals in Apple Garamond in "dark gray" for the lettering - so it looks like the printed lettering from Apple "Snow White" devices.
In powering it on just now, it did its proper "BONG" startup sound, and I could hear the CRT starting to power up, then the power supply started making rapid, staticky "clicking" sounds. Needless to say, I immediately hard powered off! Anyone have any ideas before I rip it apart?
Which 6100 is it? 7.1.2 will only install on the 6100/60, not the 6100/66.
As for why 7.5 won't install, that I don't know - I'm guessing memory issues. Try removing all but 8 MB of RAM.
I'd say the Classic II only if you are going for "a complete set of compact Macs".
The Classic has a bit more usability, thanks to the ROM drive. But course an SE FDHD is more useful still, thanks to the expansion slot and lack of need for completely custom memory card to add more memory...
Thanks to theslownorris, my IIc setup is now complete.
Apple IIc with Flat Panel Display, IIc external floppy, Mouse IIc. Running MousePaint. (Using apps that expect square pixels on the LCD is hard.)
Traded my IIc+ and an Amiga 1000 setup for it. (Amiga 1000, keyboard, mouse, external...
