    Power CD

Nice find for a working unit. I have a PowerCD myself, but it refuses to read any disk :(

    My Latest ...

Picked up an iBook G4 14" 1.33ghz model. Base unit with a dead battery and a loose PSU, however I had a 512MB stick, spare battery pulled from a dead iBook G3 14" and a spare PSU. Although it has stickers on it and quite marked, it works great! Paid $20, which for any working laptop, is...

    Macintosh Classic

You can get external video through the SCSI port for colour and some CPU upgrades. To quote LEM regarding the Macintosh Classic: Accelerators MicroMac Multispeed (16, 25, or 32 MHz 68030), optional 32 MHz 68882 FPU MicroMac Performer (16 MHz 68030), optional 25 MHz 68882 FPU MicroMac...

Powerbook Duo 230 upgraded to 2300

Nice find. I remember looking at that one on ebay, but shipping to canada was a bit nuts. I think you would be better off finding a RAM module to get it above 20MB RAM, or even 32MB. The 48MB modules are dammed hard to find (been looking for a long time) and do not offer much more than the...

2x iMac Grape off side of road, which one to keep?

I'd be inclined to go with the 333mhz tray loader. Better build quality, fairly easy to upgrade, and more like the original iMac.

Connecting 68k Macs to LCD Monitors

Has anyone tried the Apple Multiscan 15 display cable? I ask because the Multiscan 15 is VGA in the back but the cable converts it to the Apple Video Port. I have one unit, but two cables and I think this could be the most painless option to connect an LCD monitor.

    Best games for my Mac?

I spent many hours playing Full Throttle and the Space Quest series. Strategic Conquest from Delta Tao is also another fun strategic game.

    AppleCD versions and differences

Sounds to me like a SCSI issue. The audio cable should not cause freezing or prevent it from booting disks...although I don't remember there ever being an audio cable on SCSI optical drives. Check to make sure the internal SCSI chain is terminated properly and the SCSI is not the same as the...

    Make a PowerBook 5300 or 190?

There is also the 5300c with an Active Colour 640x480 LCD, which is far superior to the other colour LCDs except the 800x600 in the 5300ce. I have also heard of a failed attempt to put a 5300ce LCD on a 190. I believe the issue was due to VRAM.

    AppleCD versions and differences

Here is what I know about the models: AppleCD SC - Original Caddy Load model. Can only handle 650MB disks AppleCD SC Plus - Updated original Caddy Load. Can handle 700MB disks and has a fan to keep it cool. AppleCD 150 - Not sure of this model. AppleCD 300 - 2x External Caddy load model...

    Using the iie emulator card

Not true, the original LC has 2 internal floppy ports and the SCSI HD connector. Technically you could have two superdrives and an internal HD plus the IIe card with the floppy drives connected to it.

    Powerbook 140/145 LCD Contrast issue

The Powerbook 140 I got arrived with a blank LCD and nothing comes up when I boot it. The HD is dead unfortunately so nothing comes from that end. I happen to have an LCD from a 145B that was DOA but the LCD worked. I installed it on the 140 base, and up comes the disk '?'. After booting the...

    Well, It Sure Ain't Vintage.

Very nice. It is nice to get a new machine after using 2nd hand or older machines. I would love to get a Macbook Air, but I can't yet justify it.

    My Latest ...

Small conquest today. LC475 no idea on the RAM and a 80MB Quantum Prodrive ELS. The unit is in pretty good overall condition without even dust. It also came with keyboard, mouse, software, and a 12x non-Apple CDROM. This guy owned it since 1995 or thereabouts. $15 plus 30 minutes...

Why can't I hold all these Quadras?

Nice grab. I'd love to get my hands on a Quadra, but they seem to be few and far between here across the strait.

The fish that got away . . .

This was before I really started to collect older Macintosh computers. Some time ago I had found someone with a rather substantial collection of older macs. Most were 68k or early PPC. I did take a few things including 2 512k, 128k, and a Powerbook 5300c. However I missed on a Quadra 700 x...

Getting files onto old compact Macs

My solution is: - download a CD's worth on my Mac Mini - burn it all to CD - Put the CD in my 140c0 (3400c, kanga, wallstreet will work too) - copy files to HD - copy files to floppy (400k, 800k, or 1.4MB) Note: I use 8.6 for this and MFS 400k disks can be created using a disk image only...

    My Latest ...

Non-Mac conquest at a garage sale for $2. HP Pavilion ze4420ca 2ghz Celeron/768 RAM DDR/80GB/DVD-CDRW Combo with PSU. I bought it for parts, but it works fine and has a XP Serial on the bottom.

    CDR's + Powerbook 1400c/166

It may be a dying optical drive. My 8x drive works fine reading CD-R's in 8.6 or 9.x As you are lucky enough to have the 12x drive, you can easily replace it with the 24x Teac Drive.
