Mac SE - checkerboard and repeated chimes

The flashing question mark means that there is “no useable Operating System installed”. NOT your hard drive is bad / your floppy drive is broken.  As a matter of fact, get a bootable floppy, and try that when it does try to boot.  The continus restarts *ususlly* means the analog board has an...

Agreed. The mechanic will replace “the computer”, and not know anything about it. He is just a wrench monkey.

Newly acquired Mac SE with screen issue

Great! Now how do we fix it? ... And I think you mean Digital board. The Macintosh SE and SE/30 never had a main board. if there was a main board, it would be the analog board, which powers everything.

Fantastic!  I love to hear good news.

    1.5 GHz G4 Mac Mini and OS9

Um.......  Yeah. I’ve seen plenty of modern big screen TVs trashed, and then repaired and resold, with the only repair being caps! In the audio world, when things start “humming”, they get recapped.  Recapped isn't a “Mac” thing.  If you get a 40 year old Microsoft, that’ll need to be...

    Minimum Compact Mac Value?

@LaPorta you forgot to quote “expensive Vs. affordable” Right now, I have a SE/30 that’s fully happy, and a turbo 040, just sitting in a box.  I sent the IIx adapter to @Trash80toHP_Mini to help with it.  The adaptor for the SE/30 is a *bit* expensive, (but I understand the work that was put...

    Minimum Compact Mac Value?

Fantastic!!!  How did it turn out? Is it working? Did it have a reverse zero volt battery? (That’s when they “explode”) A year ago I found a “Jackery Powerbar” for $100, and I can show up and power up a compact Mac off of it for about a hour and a half, so I’m going to bring that with me when I...

    Minimum Compact Mac Value?

In 1996, I bought a 3’ x 3’ x 6’ cage of computers from a Salvation Army for $100 flat. From that haul, I got about 11 9pin monitors, various Microsoft type computers, and 2 Q-950s, a WGS 95, and a Q-800. Trashed all the Microsoft stuff,  sold one of the 950s for $100, which made the whole lot...

Classic II over and under volt. Help

After a recap, I got the chime back, but still have screen issues.  Checked the electromotive force, and I’m reading 13.51 and 4.47... and drifting lower & higher Both are too far out of spec., and I’m asking for help on finding out where I should start with this one.  Edit When reading...

Newly acquired Mac SE with screen issue

Try reseating the rom simm.  If that doesn’t work go through the ram and do the same.  At first look, I thought you said that you had a SE with 8 MB, but the SE can only have up to 4MB..

    1.5 GHz G4 Mac Mini and OS9

@Cory5412 No. you didn’t sound harsh, I sounded stupid.. there’s a big difference between 80, and 800! And anybody would love to have a 4.2 GHz G4 And I ment to be funny when I mentioned the “too much RAM to enable Virtual Memory” kind of, “wow, OS9 never saw 1GB before!”

    1.5 GHz G4 Mac Mini and OS9

Yep. I got my #s wrong. I don’t have a 4.2 GHz G4, and I didn’t OC it 800 MHz. Ha! Point yer fingers at me and yell “proofread”.

I prefer apples to Microsofts. Yes, I don’t have a Microsoft. For all the things I hate about steve jobs, he was right when he said they have no taste.

    1.5 GHz G4 Mac Mini and OS9

@Cory5412  1420 MHz, now its 1500 MHz, all jumpers removed. (Well, I didn’t touch the bottom one, that will bring it to 2GHz, I think that one is empty anyway, I can’t remember)  As far as RAM, Its fun to open 12 apps and look at the about this Mac and see that I still have more than 700 MB...

    CPU upgrades for Cube

Stick with the 1Ghz, unless you have apps that can take advantage of the dual processor, both the OS and app need to be written to take advantage of the duality... some apps won’t even see that there’s 2.
