Well I may get a chance to answer the question that started this thread. I picked up an 8500 with a Sonnet G3 upgrade last night for $10. Also won a Asante gigabit card for $15 shipped on ebay. However the 8500 is filthy and may not get any attention for awhile.
Its fun to upgrade the old Macs but your 9500 isn't going to be as quick as a Quicksilver no matter what you do to it. If you watch ebay you should be able to find a pretty high end Quicksilver for $150 or less including shipping; a local one could be even cheaper. The Quicksilver's got a G4...
Actually I'd like to find an Aurora Igniter or other card. But if I'm going to go that route I'll probably hold off for a high-end version. I have a Igniter breakout box (and other currently for sale on ebay), just no card at the moment.
There are some Asante GigaNix cards on there. If you...
The 3000 does uncompressed. I actually have a breakout box for one but have been waiting to find a cheap board. I'm not sure they'll work in a Mac. The CineWave was Pinnacle's Mac product at the time though I had someone tell me he used a Targa 3000 in a G5. And I've had no luck finding any...
I know the Beige G3 is limited to 320x240 which I always thought was strange. The earlier Macs will do 640x480 but you could be right about the sound getting off. I wonder how many people were actually using the built in hardware to capture 1-2 hours of uncompressed video back when they were...
Can anybody comment on the quality of video captured on PCI Power Macs (ie 7500, 8500, 8600, etc) compared to video capture cards of their day? I've owned several pro capture cards in the past (Truevision/Pinnacle Targa 2000, Aurora Igniter, etc) but don't currently have any and never really...
Yeah the point of RAID 5 is to minimize "waste". Storage is the only thing the system will be used for. I want lots of space for video. It will be a server but not running all the time, just when I need access to something.
The processor would be a problem on an old system I'm sure. I will...
I don't know if I want to attempt it. Thought I might be able to hire you. :) Just picked up a 333 Lombard with a decent screen...but it could probably be better :) Not sure if I'm going stay with a Lombard and find a 400 MHz logicboard or switch to a Pismo. So its not really time for a...
Not really, but you'll have to go a ways below $99 to sell it on ebay vs him selling it on his site. They can be hard to find since most of the 3400cs on ebay these days seem to be sold by people who can barely get them to turn on let alone figure out how much ram the have.
Just got a 3400c but haven't dug into one for awhile and haven't opened this one up yet - need a power adapter to test it out before I go taking it apart.
Is there a way to tighten up the hinges?
And the pop out feet don't lock into place. Seems to me I fixed that on several of them before...
I vote for a variation on B. I played with a few different slockets awhile ago and my experience fit with what I'd found others had posted (way back when people were buying them for their then-current P3s). A lot of them are junk or nearly so. Yours might not support chips over a certain...
I've got a LaserJet 5M (the "Mac version") with all the options except for the stupid IR receiver. I just got a free pile of 32MB 72-pin SIMMS. I thought they were 16MB and tonight I figured I'd upgrade the LaserJet RAM to its max. There are 4 SIMM slots but the 5M has a PostScript SIMM so...
Tonight when I needed to copy some CDs for tomorrow I find out my new iMac doesn't like CDs with paper labels!
I've been wanting to get an older Mac again and I happen to have an ACARD SCSI-ATA adapter thats not getting used. So I could theoretically hook a new DVD-RW drive to whatever old...
