So with all this quarantine stuff going on, and me being trapped in my house, I've started tinkering with my old Macs again. They were old and needed tinkering when I bought them 15 to 20 years ago. One of the items I have is a SyQuest drive that has no sticker on the front that is in an APS...
I just finished putting it all back together. Everything looks ok, (except for a few tabs that hold the palmrest in place that I assume I broke taking it apart). I put it back together, minus the battery pack, and it works a lot better now. The PRAM battery wasn't swollen or anything. I need to...
In my basement, along with the 2.6 you were looking for. I will try to see if I remember how to make images of them. Send me a message with an email address and I will try to get them to you.
The title sums it up; I've dug out a few of my old Macs during all this Covid stuff, with a 190cs being one of them. The whole machine seems to be working fine (I am sure the batteries aren't...) with the exception of the trackpad button. About half the time it sticks in the pressed position...
I have also had success with the double box trick. For the inner box though, I use a banker's box. I used to get a lot of them slightly used for free, and a Plus or SE wrapped in bubble wrap fits perfectly. Then that goes in a larger box with a minimum of 2" of packing peanuts on each side, top...
When I dropped it, I dropped it into a pile of big bubble wrap. It was kind of a last ditch effort, combined with impatience.
Another thing I just noticed is that there's a few keys don't work (7,8,9 and ] ). I can't say for certain that they worked prior to me receiving it though. Any tips on...
So I bought a "new" hard drive for my Powerbook. It's an IBM 240 meg, and I'm installing system software on it as I type this. While I was taking this machine apart the first time, I broke off one of the plastic posts. This afternoon I was taking the drive bracket off so I could replace the...
Another hobby of mine is collecting and playing with Lionel trains. In the mid 90's they made a few flatcars that had automobiles on top of them. The rubber (?) tires melted into the plastic car body. Shortly after that was discovered they started placing a thin piece of cardboard between the...
I wish I would have saved the old one when I replaced the one on my G4 iBook. The ribbon was shorter on the original one than the replacement one I bought (on eBay about 6 months ago), but they both had the same Apple part number. The new one doesn't fit in my machine worth anything because that...
OK, I took the 'book apart and it has a Quantum Go drive (160mb). I don't have the right size allen key to take the drive out and get much more info than that.

I'll take a look (I didn't think to look while I had it open the first time). If it is the heads being stuck is there any repair tips for that that I can try while I have it apart? Are there drives more prone to that type of failure than others? Aside from that CF adapter, are there any other...
Yesterday I received a Powerbook 165 with a "bad" hard drive. I was able to format the drive and install 7.5.3 on it while I hunt down the system enabler for 7.1. So this morning I found the enabler and started installing System 7.1. Apparently my "Install 2' disk was bad and the installation...
I just bought a Powerbook 165 on eBay for $11 (+16 for shipping :b&w: ) The seller stated that it wouldn't boot because of a bad hard drive. I took a gamble and it looks like it may have paid off. I was able to boot the machine using a 200M SyQuest drive and a copy of 7.5.3. It has 8M of...
I tried out the disks I was formatting with the SE with my SE/30 and the SE/30 can read them. The disks that the SE wouldn't mount can't be mounted by the SE/30 anymore either (they did just prior to me doing all this). I made a new System 6 startup disk with the SE/30, and the SE booted off of...
Well, after messing around with three HD floppy drives and two ribbon cables, I've got one combination that seems to be working somewhat. I have a few disks that the drive won't mount, but it will mount almost 800k disk I put in it. It will initialize HD disks and mount ones that it has...
Haven't tried more than once or twice per disk, so I never got to the rare occurrence of it booting, but other than that, your description sounds like my experience.
