Duo 230c Heating up - battery short?

Yes, must be recapped! Just did my 280c, and every. single. cap was leaking badly. Electrolyte had flowed through the vias to the other side and was making a mess of the SMD ICs there too. After re-capping, the whole board should be thoroughly cleaned. I hit mine with a deoxidizer (deoxit)...

    Duo Li-ion Battery

They're both modern and readily / inexpensively available: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Li-Ion_Charger/173381402988 https://www.ebay.com/itm/3S-BMS/133439050821 Assuming this ends up working, I'll summarize the entire BOM.

    Duo Li-ion Battery

Made a bit of progress on the battery front yesterday and today. I wired up the Li-Ion cells, BMS, and charger, and was able to get it to charge from the Duo. I still need to do more thermal testing and wire in the FETs (they just arrived today!) before trying to go both directions. Try as I...

LCIII ADB port not working :(

Mystery solved! With apologies for continuing the thread hijack, I'm posting the resolution here for posterity. Pin 3 of my ADB port was NOT reading 5V, nor was ZL1, or F(use)1. The via that feeds 5V to F1 from an inner layer was rotten, no doubt with electrolyte leaked from C8 prior to when I...

    Duo 280c Re-Cap

Sorry, this wasn't very clear and I'm past the edit window. DZ6 is on the other side of the board than the electrolytic caps, but once flipped, you'll find it on the "same side as the caps" meaning it's situated on that same half of the board roughly under them, not over by the RAM.

    Duo 280c Re-Cap

Hmm... Looks like I didn't snap a pic before I put everything back together. Its on the other side of the board. Sames side as the caps about mid-way down.

LCIII ADB port not working :(

Yes, tried re-flowing that and the ADB port itself it on your suggestion to no avail. Board was recently re-capped and thoroughly cleaned at the time, but the caps had leaked fairly badly. I guess it's possible some electrolyte remains under an IC or in a via doing further damage.  I'll check...

    Duo Li-ion Battery

Interesting... I can't tell for sure from your pic, but did you retain the little TO-92 packaged (looks like a transistor but with 2 legs) ID chip when you rebuilt it? I guess it wouldn't be recognized if you hadn't. My experience with a duo running on battery is thus far non-existent, but maybe...

    Duo Li-ion Battery

I see a few threads where this has been discussed, but not any that seem to have resulted in a fully-functional Li-ion pack. Now that my 280c is re-capped and functional, the next step is to make it portable! It's OE NiMh is long dead, so an upgrade is in order. I want the pack to charge and...

    PowerBook 540c hinge restoration: SUCCESS!!!

I'd suggest covering your expenses for time and materials at least. Vintage audio is another hobby of mine, and I designed and now print / sell on eBay a common part for older Marantz receivers. I gave the first few batches away and quickly grew weary of the process. I now charge what I think is...

Scuznet SCSI to Ethernet Adapter PCB & parts kit

If I'm counting right, they're all spoken for, but if not, I'd like to purchase one too (assuming the atxmega128a3u is pre-programmed). Thanks!

    SCSI2SD PowerBook adaptor 3D model

Perhaps not helpful, but I was about to draw one up and print it when recently faced with a similar question and instead just re-purposed the original drive's mounting brackets. Per the attached pic, after bending the tabs 90deg, the existing holes in the PowerBook version of SCSI2SD align...

LCIII ADB port not working :(

Did you ever get this resolved? My LCIII started having the same problem intermittently, and it's now escalated to a permanent condition!

    Duo 280c Re-Cap

Mystery solved! Found an old post that mentioned the 280c logic board has 4 x 35v 100uf (check), 1 x 35v 47uf (check), 1 x 25v 33uf (check), and 1 x 25v 100uf (eureka!). I had all of the above in my parts bins, so recap complete. My new friend gave me a bit of a scare today after buttoning...

    512K(e) Online

Slow is relative :)  Compared to 10Mb ethernet or even what Phonenet hardware should be capable of, it's slow. As you say though, compared to floppy transfers it's wicked fast and super convenient! It plugs into the serial port, yes--more specifically, it's intended to terminates one end of...

Trying a Different Network Approach on My SE/30

Curious to know what your transfer rates look like? I posted a couple below you about my 512K connected to ethernet via a Shiva FastPath, and similarly I'm connecting to that bridge via phonenet. My transfer rate taps out at about 64kbps, but I'm using an older/slower system, and my bottleneck...

    Duo 280c Re-Cap

Hello! I recently purchased a Duo 280c, and although it works (seller tested), I'm not going to run it until its very obviously leaking caps have been replaced. I'm no stranger to a soldering station, and have my cart ready for checkout on Mouser, but have hit a snag: I cannot for the life of me...

    512K(e) Online

In a word? Slow! In the attached image of me grabbing something off of my local *nix FTP server, I'm getting a pretty consistent ~64kb/s. Still beats the heck of the floppy shuffle though, and is plenty fast enough for any of the small files and ancient software this 'ol fella is capable of...

    512K(e) Online

Greetings! Long time 68K owner / user, occasional forum lurker, and recent member here. After a several year 68K hiatus, I managed to find a bit of free space and spare time to devote to this former hobby :) For the past 25 years I've been in possession of my father's 512K, which he...

    Should it be recapped?

Hello! I'm re-capping my 280c and hoping you could tell me the value of the smaller (8mm) capacitor (labeled C6) behind the serial port? I’m re-capping my 280c, and that one’s markings are illegible. Thanks!
