Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
You should keep your IIcx stock. I take no moral issue with slutting up a IIci with a PowerCache, but a IIcx - warts and all - is perfect just the way it is!
Heh! You mean you want my IIci to be loaded with a Portrait Card and Display, or that the IIcx you send me will have one? :)
My IIci is 50MHz/20MB/1GB.
However I'd imagine shipping will hurt more than the removal of my left leg!
I've had that same problem on a couple of my 160MB drives. One on a MacTV, the other on a Quadra 605. I never did figure out a workaround. I just found replacements.
Acccck!!! The IIcx is God's Mac! You can't part it out!
equill man, that's it. You've lost all your IIcx privileges. Your IIcx shall be shipped to me at your earliest convenience. Thank you. ;)
pathw - unfortunately I don't have a minidock to trade, otherwise I'd be more than happy to swap with you. I have a hard drive so all I really need is the IIcx itself. Take your time with regards to getting me a price. There's no rush at all. Whatever you think is fair will be fine with me. I'm...
An Apple PowerCD is the closest thing I can think of that would match a 540c. I used to have one that worked alongside my PB140, and it looked great. It's not fast by any means, but on a 68K Mac it really doesn't have to be.
I have no idea how rare they are these days though. All I have left of...
If you're looking for a good home for your IIcx, you're more than welcome to send one my way. I grew up with the IIcx, and I'm looking for one to replace my poor dead one. I have a soft spot for the IIcx - especially the ones with the socketed, gold badged processors. It just looks awesome to me...
My guess is that he has a Rocket.
Or as equill mentioned, he's trying to pass a processor upgrade in the PDS slot off as a second processor.
Or hell, maybe he's referring to the 6502s. Of course then it'd be a three processor machine. :)
Thanks! We leave on Thursday. It'll be nice to have a couple weeks away from work. It's also nice to know that my future wife knows about my vintage Macintosh habit, but wants to marry me anyway. :) :)
equill - it's funny how I have to shift my brain every time I read your posts. It's like going from day to day conversation to all of a sudden reading some Dickens, or something. LOL - it's not a knock, just an observation. :)
What version do you have? Sounds like 1 or 2....
Director isn't hard to learn once you get used to its Score paradigm. If you spend the time, you'll discover that you can do some pretty amazing things with it. Much of the early CD-ROM gaming market was created with it (Myst, etc...).
I grew up...
Well, you won't find such a slot on a stock IIcx - the only way to add an accelerator is to pull the socketed CPU (if it wasn't socketed you were pretty much SOL) and mount an adapter to it.
I have a 50MHz accelerator. And I have an adapter. I just don't have a working IIcx! :(
I run a few boards that are hosted by GoDaddy, and I'm happy as a clam. It's amazing how cheap hosting is these days.
Even if you roll your own and get a static IP (which I used to do), it's really not all that expensive. But the problem there is that buying redundant hardware, etc...can add up...
