    ALMOST a Mac Portable. :(

What kinds of old laser printers? Some of the old Apple ones are still pretty awesome.

    Flight Simulator II Scenery disks

At lot of the current simulators (FS and X-Plane) are doing just that. It's pretty amazing, actually. Somehow I think it might tax the poor Apple II though. :)

Get the plastics just close enough together to allow a small amount of room for your fingers. It takes a little fiddling, but it's doable, and I have larger hands.

How is the Flight Simulator for the Apple II? What kinds of planes can you fly with it?

New-In-Box Apple //c goes for $2,553 on eBay...!

Even with the most conservative of investing, it's not hard to double your money over twenty years. And most of those methods don't involve keeping bulky boxes around the house! :) I'm not an Apple II guy, so to me it's a lot of money. But really, if I wanted something, especially something...

    SE/30 bad system installation

Hold down Command, Shift, Option, and Delete as you boot. That should force it to boot to the external drive. If you have multiple external drives, do the same except additionally hold down the SCSI ID number of the drive you want to boot from.

Best OS for a Quadra 800

I'd personally run 7.1. Of course it depends on what you want to do with it, but I like running the OS that shipped with the computer, just to experience what it was like when the machine was new.

    2300c runs hot

I think that would certainly help - all these machines are getting to the age where the grease is breaking down and the heat sink isn't cooling as well as it should. I'm not sure how hot a 2300c should get, but some new grease definitely won't hurt.

LCD display with macII OR Quadra

Dunno about an LC, but my LG monitor happily does 640x480.

LCD display with macII OR Quadra

It's not *that* horrible, but it's not ideal either. I've thought about getting an older 15" LCD that does 1024x768 just for my old Macs.

LCD display with macII OR Quadra

I use an LG LCD for all my old Macs (including the internal video on my IIsi). It's also worked for any nubus card I've tried up to resolutions of 1152x870. The monitor's native is 1280x1024, but so far I haven't found a nubus card that can drive that.

    First post here...

At least as far as the Macintosh is concerned, the 68040 came in speeds of 20, 25, 33, and 40MHz. The 68LC040 was essentially the same processor, just minus the FPU. I mention this because there are accelerators out there listed with a 45/90MHz '040, but this is just an overclocked 40MHz chip.

I don't know how the DX2 works, so I'll leave that answer to someone more qualified. But when Apple released the Quadras, there was no talk of an internal frequency. A Quadra 700 was 25MHz, an 800 was 33MHz, and so on. Motorola also quoted the chips as 25MHz, 33MHz, etc... But then the DX2 was...

    First post here...

That description is backwards. The chip is really being driven at 33MHz. The '040 has two clock inputs - PCLK and BCLK. In your case, BCLK is at 33MHz and is used for all the bus signal timing, while PCLK is at 66MHz and is used for internal logic timing. Basically, it's a 33MHz chip. Your LC...

Quadra 700 and Duo Dock Plus

Yeah in that case a Q700 wouldn't work. Although when the 700 was released, the 900 was the only other member of its 'family'. And putting one more slot in the 700 probably wouldn't have affected sales of the 900. So I dunno what they were thinking.

Quadra 700 and Duo Dock Plus

Dunno why it only has two, but for me it's actually not much of an issue. I generally have an ethernet card and some form of 24-bit video card in my IIci - neither which is necessary in the Q700. So I've got one slot left in my IIci, and both left in my Q700.

    Fixing up a IIvx

I always thought of the IIvx as kind of a IIci (in terms of performance) with the option of having an internal CD-ROM drive. I personally was never a fan of the look of the case, but some people love it.
