That is interesting. Strange though, "It’s hard to remember now, but back in 1996 memory (as in RAM) was a big issue. The average Mac had about 2 megabytes of memory. OpenDoc wouldn’t run on a machine with less than 4 megs, and realistically, 8 megs was probably what you wanted."
RAM was...
Thanks man - unfortunately the earlier versions of Fantasm don't use serial numbers for registration. You send the money, and they send you a whole unlocked program. Since I'm doing assembly under 7.0.1, I would prefer to use the earlier versions.
I've been playing with Fantasm lately, and was wondering if anyone had a registered version (versions 2 or 3)? I have no problem paying for it, but development has ceased and I have nobody to give money to!
The versions I see online are the unregistered ones.
Until I managed to get a hold of an OS X machine, I ran Ubuntu on my 2.0GHz Athlon box.
It was fast, did everything I needed it to do, and Gnome made a pretty good desktop. But it wasn't *quite* to the point where I could recommend it to a regular computer user. I liked it though, and if it...
I just tried the 6.0.8J from that link you listed, Mac128, and it failed on my PB170. I get the happy Mac, then a message in English that 6.0.8 isn't supported on my model of Mac. It's the exact same message I get if I try and boot a standard version of 6.0.8.
I can boot this version just fine...
This is exactly right. You wouldn't notice the burn as much because you're in effect burning the entire screen at the same rate.
Phosphor has an overall life limit that will eventually be reached by all CRT displays, but by displaying one image for extended periods of time, you're essentially...
Heh - I just like being the System 6 evangelist around here. :) I don't blindly believe it's better - I understand that people have their own preferences.
For a stock machine of course a IIfx is king of the System 6 world, but I'm personally a big fan of the IIcx/IIci form factor, and...
I know all about USB to ADB adapters, but did anyone make an adapter that goes the other way around? In other words, I'd like to use a USB keyboard and mouse on an ADB Mac (a Nubus Mac, so a USB card is not an option).
I would think that if you can go one direction, it'd be trivial to go the...
I forgot that it could boot to 6.0.3 from ROM - man that's reason to own a Classic right there! I know it's a stripped down version, but I think it's pretty cool.
Purchase an external USB floppy drive for your Macbook Pro. They're pretty cheap and are helpful for transferring data to a non-internet equipped Mac. Then you can use the Classic as tomlee said.
Then why bother with old Macs at all? You're trying to apply logic to a hobby, which simply doesn't work. I have a 512K *entirely* because of ChipWits, a game that was given to me for my birthday back in the mid 80s. Never mind that I can play it via an emulator on my G4.
None of this needs to...
