Hmmm...well I have no idea then. If you look at the stock MDD benchmarks, they're all pretty similar to mine, so it's not something specific with the processor upgrade. Also interesting is that xbench erroneously lists the speed of the L3 cache.
Sorry for the late response, but I just realized that my HDD crash allowed me to give an answer. I have a flashed GeForce 6200, which *does* support CI, and was able to boot to my OS 9.1 CD just fine at 1280x1024. I didn't actually install OS 9, so I'm not sure if you'd get any acceleration, but...
I ran the test again, and the results remained the same (except for my disk scores - the new HDD I put in after the old one crashed scored a 41.9).
Perhaps the test heavily favors a cache, which the G5 only has 512KB of per processor against my 2MB.
I think this is awesome.
coius - if you want to learn it, learn it. You're right that today's computers are far too complex for one person to know everything about every component, but you can still learn fundamentally how it all works. The information is out there. It's pretty cool, IMO.
Heh - you know, I never bothered to even look. My IIsi had one, so I assumed my LC did too. Of course, you know what they say about the word assume! :) :)
Welp - I figured out my problem, and it was my flashed nVidia 6200. The system booted into the installer just fine when I put the stock GeForce AGP card back in. The 6200 was fine once 10.4 was fully installed.
Sorry to dig up this thread, but I was hunting around for SE mod ideas and came across this comment. I have an LC with two internal floppy drives, but never tried to connect an external floppy to it. Is there any reason why I couldn't use three drives with my LC?
Yeah, I checked the jumpers and they seem fine. Incidentally, the installer DVD does it even when no hard drive is attached at all. I tried zapping the PRAM as well. Interesting.
Hey all - as you might know, I've been enjoying my 1.5GHz DA G4 running 10.4 for about a month now, but I've encountered a problem.
The HDD began making a repeating griding sound. It's kind of hard to explain, but basically the computer will pause with the spinning ball for about 20 seconds...
What's different between this board and others that I frequent is that there's a much larger range of ages here. As much as we all would like to think of ourselves a mature individuals, the reality is that the age differences are going to create social issues. We're never going to all agree on...
Cool project, sunder!
I was reading about your frankenmac using the IIcx motherboard, and was wondering if you still had it? I'm a big IIcx fan and am still looking for a working IIcx motherboard to replace my broken one.
