Well, assuming they got them around 10-12 years ago, each system would have been literally tens of thousands (US$) with all the Avid stuff...multiply that out and include all the spares, and you're probably approaching a quarter Mil...maybe even more.
Yeah, you could start your own filmmaking school with these...heck, ten years ago when I started at CalArts, we only had two machines that we're setup with Avid hardware.
Or otherwise a non-profit...because then I could go after this!
Actually, I have two relatives who are either teachers or in some part of the school system, but they're a bit of a ways to make claiming it logistical...that and it would be another case of 'how do I move all of this and where do...
Tom is hosting it himself now, and he's a lot better at backing things up than I ever was. What happened before was a bit of perfect storm of negligence on my part and the part of the host I was using...neither of which are factors anymore, thankfully.

I think most of us from the early days just got preoccupied with other things...priorities shifting over the years and all. I'm barely on here anymore mainly because I've been trying to turn one of my former hobbies of photography into a second income (and eventually, hopefully, a primary career).
I bought an iBook G4 for my daughter around Christmas (as some of you remember) and luckily there was a recall on the battery, so I got a new one from Apple. With it, it lasts a pretty long darn time, and I only have to remind her to plug it back in to charge once every few days.
Yay! I'm back...and please feel free to blame me for the whole ordeal, it really is pretty much my fault.
