Power supplies in Japanese origin machines

Hoping to get this little guy working because the case is in good shape, save for being yellowed a bit, and more importantly it came with this little guy inside as a surprise.

Power supplies in Japanese origin machines

Well, nothing obvious brings it to life. When I flip the power switch I hear a very faint little "squee" sound for a split second, but that's all. The caps looked a little bulged.

Power supplies in Japanese origin machines

Excellent, thanks for the notes everyone. I'll pop the cover off this weekend and poke around for anything obvious. I tried the keyboard soft-power key, but it didn't do anything either when the power supply was switched on. I've been meaning to make a conquests page for a long time, so I may...

Power supplies in Japanese origin machines

Do the power supplies in the Japanese market Macs from the early 90's work on US power specs? I just got a Color Classic II that survived the trip intact and also had one hell of a nice surprise inside that I'll post about elsewhere, but at the moment I can't get it to power on. It left Japan...

264 MB in PowerMac 7100 Hack

Can confirm, I have 8 recently purchased 64MB SIMMs from MemoryMasters that I planned to use to max out my 7100 and 8100. Unfortunately, they're only seen as 16MB SIMMs each. I'll try them in my Quadra 650 and ColorClassic II at some point. They also gave my OrangePC 290 fits, but seem to work...

I probably used up all of my luck for the rest of the decade: Quadra 950

Is that GWorld RAM on that card?

You could try a Nubus video card to see if that alleviates any of the pain?

Cleaning marks off of an eMac?

Holy. Crap. 😲 So, apparently we had some magic erasers around the house already, so I pulled the shell off the eMac, used some high-pressure air & Q-tips to clean out the machine. Then I got to working on the shell. First, I put it in the shower and used the detachable showerhead to wash away...

Cleaning marks off of an eMac?

Just ordered a couple Mr. Clean "magic erasers" from Amazon. We'll see how it goes. I always wanted one of these eMacs, and a 1.42 Ghz one w/ 2GB of RAM popped up locally for $55, so I snagged it. The eMac always felt like the "pinnacle" old school AIO Macintosh to me even after Apple moved on...

Cleaning marks off of an eMac?

I was thinking about trying this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Novus-7100-Plastic-Polish-Kit/dp/B002UCYRZU/ I also need to figure out how to dismantle part of the case to clean some of the grime that's accumulated on the white plastic underneath the rear grille.

Cleaning marks off of an eMac?

Does anyone have any tips on how to clean/polish some marks and scuffs off of an eMac that's otherwise in good working order?

    x86 card revival thread

Only because I can't find a 7100/8100 card with a Socket 3 on it (though they do exist, I've seen them for sale, and there's a picture of one in this thread). Host machine w/ PowerPC 601 Nubus Radius Rocket w/ 68040 Nubus OrangePC 290 w/ 486 PDS Reply DoM 7100/8100 w/ Pentium Overdrive Though...

    x86 card revival thread

Yeah, I run a 160 Mhz AMD Am5x86 on my OrangePC 290. Though the benchmark performance is quite poor. I assume it's due to the use of a hybrid 386/486 chipset, probably unoptimized BIOS, and the inability to get things into write-back cache mode. What I was real hoping to do was have a machine...

    x86 card revival thread

Blargh! You were right! I've seen 7100 and 8100 cards with a legitimate Socket 3 on them. However, this 8100 card I just got also only has a Socket 1 (or whatever it is) socket on it that won't take the POD83 CPU. Thus the hunt remains for a 7100 PDS card with a Socket 3 on it. :-( That said...

    x86 card revival thread

That's the case with both my OrangePC 290 and Houdini II card, but the 7100 and 8100 Reply cards have either a LIF or ZIF Socket 3 socket on them.

    x86 card revival thread

I managed to acquire one of the PDS cards for 8100 model machines. I was/am really hoping for a 7100 version since the 7100/80 is the machine I planned on keeping between that and my 8100/100. But, these things show up so infrequently, that I jumped at the change anyway. The seller has a 2nd...

    Daystar Genesis MP (again!)

That seems like that could be remedied. I need to find a machine for the card to go in. I have a PowerTower Pro 250, but it already has an 800 Mhz G4 in it, and I have a PowerCenter 150 that's been upgraded to a 400 Mhz G3. The PowerCenter will only take low-profile cards, so it's out...

    Daystar Genesis MP (again!)

I just scored a weird CPU upgrade card I came across that's a dual 200 Mhz 604e CPUs for PCI Power Macs. The Interware Booster MP 400. I originally got it just because it was so novel, but now I want to see if I can get it into a machine and run BeOS on it!
