Recapping Analog Boards of 128K/Plus and SE series

The 3.9uf 35v BP HF doesn't exist anymore as electrolyte capacitor: replace with Panasonic ECW-F2395JA ( Polypropylene BP HF 250 VAC capacitor ) The 474K, 400V metal Poly is a 0.47uf capacitor: replace with Panasonic ECQ-E6474KFB

    mac se fdhd help

I assume the Mac came with ram installed. Didn't this memory give the same error ? Try installing only 2x modules in Bank A and set the jumper to 2MB ( 2x 1MB module ). As for the memory modules you photographed: I have never seen this brand before. They are probably 1mb modules of 70ns...

    mac se fdhd help

Error code "0000FFFF" "00000002" points to a Ram issue. There are several versions of the Mac SE logic boards around. The logic board's standard setup is for 1MB of ram = 4x 256KB modules. If you want to use another setup, you either have to change a jumper near the ram modules or remove 1 or...

    Odd ROM (SE/30)

What's wrong with your SE/30 Analog board ? As long as it's not the flyback, it can probably be repaired unless the PCB is severly damaged of course... I'm in the middle of recapping the analog boards and PSU's of my SE series now. I already did my older Compact Macs ( 128K to Plus ) last...

    Macintosh Portable - No Sound?

For these it's time to recap the Analog board. I also replace the axial capacitors on the logic boards. Good Luck

    Floppy drive wont stop ejecting.

There are indeed different cables for the 400K and 800K drives where the wrong cable can cause constant ejecting of the disk. However I think the cable is not the issue here as the drive started failing while it worked before. 400K drives NEED pin 20 and 9 (spindle speed and -12V respectively)...

Trying to replace my Color Classic's dead hard drive

I have not seen this issue before with my Color Classic. I can use any vintage SCSI drive from 40MB to 160MB: IBM, Connor, Quantum with or without external SCSI devices. The Color classic has no special SCSI termination requirements. I'm wondering, have you recapped the logic board of your CC ...

    Floppy drive wont stop ejecting.

You'll have to disassemble the floppy drive and casing of the eject motor. There's a switch inside that probably has dirt on the contacts it that needs to be cleaned. Otherwise it's possible the gearbox of the eject motor is damaged. Here's a good article how to take the drive apart and fix the...

Trying to replace my Color Classic's dead hard drive

What brand and model is the drive ? Have you tried it in your external enclosure without an internal drive connected ?

Long Term Reliability of Conner 40MB Drives (Mac Classic)

I haven't been able to find an exact replacement for the washer ( O-ring ) and opening hard drives and taking the heads assembly aparts is always risky, not something you want to do on a working drive.

    This disk is unreadable

All Superdrives in the Compact Mac series, from an SE FDHD to Color Classic, are identical. Once the Bourns RP is gone, changing the floppy drive is too late... I would buy a few spare Bourns filters as if the floppy drive or cable is the problem, the new chip will be gone almost instantly...

    This disk is unreadable

Most of the time the Bourns filter of the Floppy drive goes bad due to a bad FDD cable/drive or a loose connection. I killed one a while ago on an SE board because the cable of the floppy drive was not plugged in 100% and so not all pins made connection. I got the "Disk unreadable...

    This disk is unreadable

I also think RP10 ( M/C 8902L ) is the problem. Is this the chip you have ? If it''s not caused by something else, like a bad floppy drive controller, I can repair your board. I'm located the Belgium. PM me if you're interested.

Trying to replace my Color Classic's dead hard drive

As far as I can see on your photo the parity jumper is not set. All old hard drives Apple used in these Compact Macs had parity enabled, same counts for the external CD-Rom drives. Enable the parity jumper and try another formatter than Lido like Apple's Patched HDSC setup 7.3.5

Long Term Reliability of Conner 40MB Drives (Mac Classic)

The Conner drive used in the Mac portables was notorious for this... I haven't seen it in the Connor desktop models yet. Some Quantums with higher capacity than 80MB have rubber liquifying inside the drive: there's a rubber stop washer that prevents the heads going off the platters. Well these...

Powerbook 150 - screen is blank

The SMD caps in the PB150 LCD are inside a white plastic housing, so without removing it you can see any leakage. Anyway, I have restores many powerbook LCD's by replacing all the SMD capacitors in the panel. The powerbook 150 is 17 years old, replacing the SMD capacitors is routine...

Powerbook 150 - screen is blank

You probably won't need an ESR meter to test the capacitors in the LCD: they are all leaking and the contact are corroded too. It's possible that recapping the LCD panel will bring back the pictures. The LCD cable of the PB150 is much stronger compared to the other powerbooks of the PB100...

Long Term Reliability of Conner 40MB Drives (Mac Classic)

The 40MB Conner CP3045A drives are quite reliable, I don't know if this counts for larger drives. The best vintage SCSI drives are definately IBM's of 80MB or 160MB. As for the Quantum Prodrive series: well these suffer from stiction so the heads get stuck in the parked position. This can be...

    Display "Blooming" and "Buckling"?

The distortion has to do with misaligment of the magnents around the coil of the yoke. You'll have to fiddle with them to get the picture right but it's best to mark the original position of each one before you start turning them. Be carefull for the high voltage !! If it's impossible to get...
