I had the same problem, for me it was the Finder System files were corrupt, once I replaced them it booted fine. Just like previous posts said, disk reads fine but its easier missing the System and Finder files or they are corrupted. Just replace them from another floppy
So I have two Macintosh SEs, one I keep in its original condition (20MB hard drive loud fan etc) The other one is my play Mac which I upgraded with more RAM, Hard Drive etc. My most recent addition is an ultra quiet fan.
Now I went for a 40mm fan because this particular SE does not have...
The easiest way would be to get a Floppy Emu
Else you need a bridge system. I have had success using an old Win 98 Pentium Laptop that had both a USB 1 port and a floppy port. This allowed me to move files in the following way.
PC ->USB Stick -> Windows Laptop ->Floppy -> Mac
I...
I get it, I read the Steve Jobs book too :) but even after hearing how limited they are I still was shocked by the reality of how very little they can do. I always thought they have to be at least as useful as an Apple II right? Not!
I mean the whole software library is probably about 20...
I was under the impression that System 6 was basically compatible with everything made before it but I guess there are exceptions. I will try downloading system 5 later when I have some time.
Its a reset button I think,
I got my Macintosh 128 a few months back, so far I am very underwhelmed, I mean it will run almost nothing. If you manage to get yours to do anything useful please let me know. Or if anyone knows of a list of software/games that will run on the Mac 128 I would love...
Oh yes, what I meant was I used diskette from 1987 I bought when I was 8 and tried to install it on my Macintosh SE running System 6. Damn auto-correct replaced that with the link
Yes I should have mention I am running System 6. I even downloaded another copy and it had the same issue. Maybe you are right it needs an earlier version. I was just wondering if anyone else had success playing this game.
I am trying to play the game Defender of the Crown on my Macintosh SE. I got a copy from Macintosh Garden:
<snip>
The game starts fine and you can do some things however it always crashes if you try to buy soldiers. Does anyone know what the issue is or have a working copy,
Thanks
I have a classic that has the exact same issue. All good but no sound. Thinking of sending it to Uniserver for repairs but the cost is larger then the value of the computer so I have been hesitating. i may break and do it one day soon.
I would not worry about accelerators unless you are into making a hot rod. I like the idea of keeping the hardware as it was in 1980s, bigger hard drive not withstanding. There is a ton of cool system 6 software to keep you busy. You can also hook them to the Internet via a raspberry Pi, that...
My personal (limited) experience with the two SEs I have is that the caps seem to be better then some of the other models (unlike the Classic which always seem to fail). Both mine do not have replaced caps and they are ok at least for now. My advice is use the computer. If you keep using it...
Amiga 600 came out 8 months after the Classic II. While the Amiga 3000 was 2 years before the Classic II, you are comparing to the wrong generation of Amigas. Also my point about the Amiga performance had to do with the fact that most of that extra functionality was in custom chips, so yes it...
You are comparing a desktop pro level product to a consumer compact.
You are missing a few Amigas like the compact Amiga 1200 & 600. In your comparison. Even the Amiga 500 has a small system board. Also the Amiga actually had like a sound chip and graphics oh and color.
By 1990s Apple was...
Yah you would have to compare the Macintosh II(*) to the Amiga 3000. If you want a better comparison to the Classic look at the Amiga 600 system board.
On the whole you would have a hard time convincing me that Apple was ahead of Commodore in 1992, Amiga were what Macs should have been in 1992.
