G4 cube fully supported Linux ?

What's YDL3? I tried getting Gentoo set up on a G4 Mac mini, but I stopped because a) I couldn't get the bootloader working (though I've found some resources that should help with that since then), and b) fun as it was, the G4 mini is just too weak for a modern load. Despite all that, I learned...

    400 and 800k disks

I bought ten 800K disks from them and they work perfectly. They came in a nice little box and everything. Warning, though: I paid $10 for the disks and $10 for shipping. Worth it, but you can only calculate shipping at checkout and I hadn't gotten that far until I actually bought them.

    FOUND: 68KMDS version 2.0

Awesome! I tried to use version 1 and I might as well have assembled by hand---that would have been faster :p. I certainly hope version 2 is better.

What is this power adapter for?

Never thought of recapping a wall wart before. Makes sense. How do you open it? Crack the seal and hope it goes back together?

What is this power adapter for?

Thanks. I got it for free, and I figure I'll keep it, as I want to own a 68k PowerBook at some point. If only I had the money for that 180c over on Trading Post...

What is this power adapter for?

Title says it all...but I'm thinking it's for a Powerbook.

    überboard

Sounds like you better get busy. 😝 I can only imagine the complexity of the design...unless it's really just an ARM SoC with a bus output. Some kind of Ultimate MacSnap... Your thoughts kind of bring me to an idea I had. The 68k PowerBooks look to me like they'd be a lot of fun to use. What...

    Lisa OS Open-source?

Yeah, I hadn't considered IP and possible patent issues. Even if there aren't any in the ROM code, it would still require someone to search through the code...which, as stapleton said, is not cheap. If IP is the issue, though, how did QuickDraw get released?

    Lisa OS Open-source?

A shame, really. It's not like Apple is going to profit from not releasing it. Likewise for source of System 1-6 and probably 7,8,9 as well. How was it a press leak? Does that mean that Apple announced it but never organized it with CHM and ended up forgetting about it?

    Lisa OS Open-source?

Years ago, I saw this post on Slashdot, and it stuck with me for no reason other than at the time I had never heard of the Lisa. It says that CHM was to release the source, probably 68k assembly, for Lisa OS---but there is no record of this on CHM's website, nor any evidence of source anywhere...

    Keyboard without a keyboard: mac-plus-serkey

When I got my Mac Plus, it came with an ADB mouse and keyboard. Obviously those are useless with the computer, so I gave them back and pursued other options in the interest of cost (it's about $150 for a used and compatible keyboard and mouse). I found a cheap PS/2 mouse to Atari ST converter on...

    128K ROM Changes

I was actually referencing Volume IV as I wrote that post. I should have paid more attention, though, because Chapter 3 (the Resource Manager) lists the system resources in the 128K ROM: the four main cursors, drivers .Print, .Sound, .Sony, .MPP, .ATP, the Chicago font, a default MDEF, the...

    128K ROM Changes

This is a thread purely of questions. If these are actually super obvious and I'm just missing something, feel free to disregard my post. What changed between the 64K ROM and the 128K (Plus/512Ke) ROM? The things I know of, beyond bug fixes, are HFS, the SCSI Manager, the 800K disk driver, and...

    Mac Plus and HD20

Whoa. When do we get a Traffic Light DA? And yeah, I would love some kind of standalone keyboard. The only reason I haven't gotten one (and a mouse) is cost---is there a better source than $90 sellers on eBay?

    Mac Plus and HD20

Somewhere, there is a perfect balance between preservation and overuse. That said, these Macs seem shockingly reliable given their age and it's probably important to remember that. Also, I always think it's unfortunate to hear someone instantly put down or abuse some retro piece of...

    Mac Plus and HD20

Thank you all. This is fun stuff, what can I say. I was originally trying to code in assembly (I have experience with Z80 assembly so I thought I'd take a stab at 68k), but I was using the original MDS and it was painfully slow. Also, I quickly discovered that assembly isn't exactly the best...

    Mac Plus and HD20

The Fanny Mac is loud, but it's not that big of a deal. I was more concerned about the hard disk, but from what the two of you have said, it's not an issue. I can definitely hear it within the room, and it doesn't make a grinding sound---it's more like a constant whir. I do make backups too...

    Mac Plus and HD20

Hi everyone. First post here. This seems like the most active vintage Apple forum, aside from perhaps r/VintageApple. I have recently gotten my hands on a Macintosh Plus and an HD20 (not the HD20SC, though). It's my first foray into vintage Apple stuff. The Plus was upgraded to 4 MB of RAM...
