Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
are you using Nuvotech driver? because if you are then that's likely your issue. @saybur can probably say more but we did a lot of testing with that driver on the scuznet and it was alway unreliable, and seeming to cause subtle different stability issues depending the Mac used. that's basically...
even on the SE/30 I have trouble with the bluescsi unless its externally powered. this behaviour does change slightly symptomwise depending on the firmware used. obviously overclocked fw wll draw more power on the bluescsi, however I think he mentioned in the video he tried stock fw.
also im not...
absolutely, im sure even with all the resources available today that to be able to patch the system boot process to do all that stuff would require some serious skill.
from memory, and im not a coder, ive just read about it but when the system file boots there are a bunch of PTCH resources that...
doesn't mode32 just patch some 24bit rom code that's still left over in the dirty roms, place changed code in memory and change the pointers to look there for the code rather then the rom space address?
that's just my assumption really? like the actually implementation is probably much more...
I have no idea if the se/30 rom will work in the IIsi or not, I don't have a iisi myself but there's likely a pin headed jumper you need to swap to change from the built in rom to using the Simms.
the romulator is cool and quite hardly depending on the situation. being that I have a 3 se/30's...
I know TMON is meant to support .map and symbol files I dunno if that's of any use as I have no real skill in using these debuggers being a hardware guy myself
oh ok, yeah thinking about it I guess that would work if force32 loads aftefter mode32. I haven't used mode32 in quite a few years and I don't recall any stability or software issues from it myself, im assuming you haven't either. So using mode32 could save him some money rather then buying a...
no need to be sorry, I did just watch his video actually as I got curious. and I agree there's most likely something else going on with his Mac and that accelerator being used together, the scsi booting issues he had would probably have me looking at the scsi controller and related circuitry...
I haven't seen action retros video, its not really the kinda stuff I watch on YouTube. a friend of mine had one of these a few years back for his SE I seem to remember him mentioning there were some issues. like I said last post though im probably wrong, in fact you mentioning about the...
before you replace the rom socket, have you actually cleaned up both there Rom and ram sockets as well as the rom/ram Simm contacts using ipa? you could have intermittent connections there. also replacing the rom socket might not actually be easy as getting those sockets (64pin SIMM I think??)...
im not sure the exact power requirements for the 5v PSU but id suggest something closer to 1.5A to 2.0A.
it might just be that my particular unit is wearing out however every time ive used a 1A PSU (tired a couple btw) I couldn't get it to read disks or show up in scsi manger reliably
did Lapis ever even write drivers for system 7.5.x?
my understanding when I looked into this a few years ago (had the same or a similar model card) was that getting lapis cards running on anything higher then 7.1 is pretty unlikely.
there should a DeclROM on the card, its what lets the Mac use...
exactly what Pivot card and monitor do you have for that IIsi?
I had a color pivot card for the IIsi ages ago and I had some issues getting it working at the time. some pivot cards have weird video output signals, and some default to 640x864 res that almost no modern lcd is going even try to...
usual IPA on a q-tip is the best way to go when first cleaning the drive heads, sometimes this doesn't work and even if you can't really see anything on the heads they may still not be fully clean.
when I find a drive in that stage I then apply the soapy water, but I use mineral free water to...
ive booted my bluescsi directly off a couple different bootable iso Mac installers. there's a lot of badly ripped boot cd's floating around that don't have the correct boot blocks meaning they won't directly boot. however im pretty sure somewhere on the bluescsi wiki is a page that lists and...
@mgma bluescsi is probably the cheapest option cost wise and while I can't speak for working on other systems the code behind bluescsi was originally written by a Japanese guy for the sharp X68000 if memory serves correct. id strongly advise to not use the overclocked firmware though...
bluescsi is probably you cheapest and easiest to build option, its code base is regularly updated, pretty sure CD-ROM iso support is available now. however @cheesestraws bring up a real issue, overdriving a. cpu to get better performance probably isn't a good idea in terms of reliability and...
the problem with many so called 'experts' who change money to fix vintage Macs or computers etc its that sadly many don't actually know the correct way to repair or fix things. over the years ive worked in electronics its shocked me more times then I care to admit in respect to the poor quality...
