I like you i stayed away from the logic board and simply brought a spare board but i do recommend The motherboard as i priority. That said due to heat the logic board may also need some re flowing of solder as dry joints can occur, also look at the power supply.
I’m no expert on classics...
Yes that’s a-shame , I’m lucky my se/30, 6200 powerpc and g3 are all networked so i use my imac to download and transfer to my powerpc from there my se/30 can see the powerpc although i still use zip between the 2 older machines as i like using that nostalgia and all
Same old issue of transferring files, yes there are ways thats others will better help you with on this one but for me i went with a powerPc as a bridge computer and a Zip drive as getting files to a newer 1990’s os8 machine was easier then use software to convert to 800kb format.
I have...
Good question 68kracy, although as far as I’m aware any system7 icon set will work on any mac of the time including compacts, the 1-bit graphics simply converts the colour ones into b&w.
i will say I’m no expert on this mind you yet i do know my se/30 and (colour) 6200cd powerpc have the...
I use my rev b imac circa 2001 to download from mac garden, this is networked to both my 6200cd and SE/30 so I download from the imac file transfer to the 6200 and for nostalgic purposes zip drive to the se/30. I could file transfer between those but choose not to
Yes, i use the standard rom but mode 32 and i see all 128mb ok so the memory check adds 20 seconds to boot up with that setup. I have the big wires custom rom but it didn’t like 7.5.5 with afresh install via 7.5.3 first. Basically to much hassle and i wasn’t prepared to wipe it and loose my...
I brought 128mb from owc for about £45 ($70) new about 18 months ago, that included uk shipping, I believe it was faster than the 60ns rating or something like that from memory worth every penny.
found it https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/30PS16MB/ratings?fullDetails
I know its silly and a nostalgic thing as i have a 2001 imac networked to both my 6200cd and an SE/30 so i can just file share which makes transfers easy but not as much fun :)
keep the zip drives alive i say lol
agree though getting software on these old machines can be an utter pain if...
You got further than me then as i never managed to get basilisk to work on my mac mini. In theory yes using the emulator you can write hfs formatted floppy disks that said pc exchange is easier as you can just download straight from macgarden or other site and pop it straight onto a readable...
Cheers John. I was always told never to open hdds so yes it’ll be a last resort. Maybe i can keep the outer housing and power supply and change out the hdd, will see i’ll give it one more try before accepting defeat
