Huh I’ll have to check later when I get home from work. I do remember almost buying a 3 cell replacement though so maybe I’m forgetting what it really is. I know I have a 6 cell 7.2v battery but it was from the Toshiba (which I still need to get a charger for) I own so probably mixing them up.
Mine is running with no pram battery. I just got mine working the other day and have a failed inverter and cracked display. It should be a standard vga output. If you shine a flashlight on the display can you see an image?
I did notice that I had to boot it with vga plugged in to get an output...
Do you have any working inverters you could try to find the voltage readings compare to these damaged or dead inverters? Might give some insight into the problem.
Fair enough. Hopefully this will at least make some attention towards it since these are rare enough already and failure of the inverter seems common. I’ll ask a friend who deals with these computers to see if he knows anything about the inverters
I’ll take a look at those options tonight and hopefully I can figure out where the problem is.
I don’t know much about inverters/ccfl bulbs but do they need anything special to power the bulbs? Would it be possible to just hook the required voltage up to the bulb and run it like that without an...
Would there be any way to use a new inverter or wire direct power to the backlight? I’m not sure what else the inverter does but I Might just do that if it only powers the backlight
I don’t think I have any other inverters that would work. Voltage is 0v going to the backlight. I need to try to get a display and inverter now it seems which is going to be difficult.
I just got a 2400c/240 and it’s display is smashed. The backlight doesn’t turn on through and brightness controls don’t change it either. I was wondering could this be a bad inverter or backlight? Is there any way to know which without a bulb tester?
They do use rechargeable cells. At least in the 145B and 280, my main batteries need to be functional to charge and without them the pram batteries wont charge at all. The exact same cells are used in all of my 68k powerbooks so far
If you use non rechargeable cells, they will work temporarily...
Here you go! All 3.3uf 35v caps. They are not normal smd it looks like. Looks like they are cylindrical inside of a square casing and on their side.
It doesn’t look too great right now so hopefully my new replacements arrive soon…
I wish I had known about those new pram batteries a while ago when I needed them, but I already ordered the parts to just make them myself.
The 35v cap (at least the ones I have) are quite difficult to install as they are much larger than the original and barely fit on the pads. Might be worth...
Theo unusual thing is that I have only ever seen one hosiden panel affected by vinegar syndrome. Probably just due to the relative scarcity of them in laptops. Maybe they used a better adhesive, but I’m just guessing at this point.
I have a 280 that is basically the same as you 250 but a bit...
I paid about $65 for my duo 280 after shipping. It was in amazing shape and after some cleaning has turned out to be nearly perfect without any scratches. It came with charger and microdock and was listed as for parts because it did not power on. (It now works great spare for tunnel vision after...
I know it is several cracks and not just one on the 145B which is quite annoying. I might just buy another 100 series to get the bottom case and have the spares.
It was present on both when I got them but the 145B got worse after the airport security didn’t treat it too well. The 170 has not worsened though. Hopefully I can find a new bottom casing panel. Maybe I will design and print one but that’s a ton of work
Anyone have any idea what to do about this? My 170 and 145B are having this and it seems to be getting worse on the 145B which is use quite frequently. I would prefer if I could fix it without messing up the looks of the casing
I have basically given up with the originals so if they break I’m just going to cut them out and use 3D printed new ones instead. So far they are doing good in the hinges and the hdd/fdd mounting bracket screws. I tried melting them but it didn’t work too well in my case but maybe that was just me
That happened on all of my 100 series laptops so far. Just put some superglue around them and hopefully that will hold for a while.
I hear baking soda and super glue makes it even stronger but never tried it. I have used some thing cloth which helps a little bit as well.
Pretty much all of...
My 230 had a similar thing. Powerport mercury card with a single cap that had not leaked while every other cap in the system had leaked. Replaced it just to be sure though.
