I don't have a USB CD-ROM. :( I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible.
I don't mind tearing them apart. I've had to take the 500 apart a few times to take out the dead CD-ROM. It was a pain in the butt...
Do you happen to know if the 333s have the slim notebook-style ide drives that...
Is it possible to use a tray-loading CD-ROM in a slot-loading iMac? This would only be temporary, long enough to get an OS onto the hard drive and that is it. It doesn't even need to fit in the case. I could just leave the machine half open while it installs.
I ask because I have a slot-load...
What is it with people being so avoidant when I ask questions about upgrading? I wanted to do a processor upgrade on a Dell once and I had people in the Dell forums telling me to throw my computer away.
I want a video card that works. That's all. I don't understand why everyone is so concerned...
I can't understand that site for the life of me. Everytime I search for info on the 6400 I end up there only to read through 30 pages of text to find out that something might work, or that it worked for some guy far off in a parallel dimension once.
I just want to know what people here are...
I named this drive Pepito, and in the end, it really did end up being the spawn of Satan.
(see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squee#Pepito for details)
It took 32 hours to move 11gb of data off the drive.
The entire time, my system was nearly comatose. I couldn't even use Adium.
At least it...
The CD-ROM is on the ATA33 bus.
I tried half a dozen different jumper configurations, including master/slave, and cable select on both drives.
I tried moving the secondary drive to the ATA100 with the primary drive, with no change other than that it locks up BOTH drives now.
Tried a spare...
My machine is a PM G4, 2GB ram, Dual 1.44ghz, FW800.
ATA/66 - Maxtor 5400rpm, 20gb less than 2mb cache (secondary)
ATA/100 - Hitachi 7200, 120gb 8mb cache (main)
A question for now:
I'm having an issue with my secondary hard drive. Whenever I try to open ANYTHING off of it, even a small JPG...
FFVII.
I recently played it again after a few years when I realized I could play the PSX disc on my Mac with PCSX.
It looks way prettier on a good-quality CRT.
It was a good year for me too! Not as many as some of you, but my collection nearly doubled.

Oh, alright. I got it now. I was thinking that there would be an actual "control panel" folder like on some newer OSes and I was going nuts trying to find it.
Simply moving the After Dark program file to a different location disabled it.
And now that it has started up in regular mode, my...
I can't even locate the control panel folder. :O
I'm on 6.0.3
Even if I set the background, time, date, etc in the control panel and then switch to another window, when I come back to the control panel, everything is the same... except the background. It won't even accept the change.
Nevermind, booting from rom worked, I just wasn't pressing the key combo quick enough. (I couldn't reach all the keys with one hand.)
I don't know how to get After Dark to not launch on startup though, other than deleting it. Any ideas?
I noticed it was set in Special>Set Startup...
So I...
I tried that also, just a moment ago. Doesn't work.
I was hoping it wouldn't come to reinstalling the OS, since I like to look around and see what's on the drives before I wipe them.
I know there is a key combo that works... I wish I could remember it.
I forgot to mention that I tried this already. I even tried it with a separate keyboard thinking that maybe the shift key was stuck, but for some reason the After Dark extension continues to load.
I have a Mac Classic that, on startup, immediately goes to an After Dark screen saver (the fish one) that is password protected.
Is there a way to get around this?
I remember a few years ago I got around it with a key combination on startup, but I don't remember what that was.
I believe it is...
